TURDFERGUSON (1594), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA Jan 7, 2008 2006 Bottle (BB 8/1/07) from my secret santa. Thanks! Pours a hazy, reddish brown with a thin off-white head and good lace. Nose is nutty and roasty with some minor cocoa and coffee characteristics. Flavor is pretty darn smooth with some notable bitterness. Don’t taste much of the chocolate, but it is rather nutty and roasty as the aroma suggests. Gotta admit every time I rate a brown ale that this isn’t one of my favorite styles so I am hard to please. This seems to be well made without any major flaws, but its just sort of "meh" for me. I could see it being a good session beer if it’s your thing. Anyway, Thanks for sending me this Jacob! mabel (2530), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jan 6, 2008 [869-20071130] 660mL (w/ GregClow, jerc, tupalev). Stouty nutty brown aroma has a hint of raisin and wood. Cloudy, dark brown amber body with a quick off-white head. Coffee dark roasted and burnt flavour has a chocolate almond background. Medium-full body. Great nutty brown blend. bitbucket (2026), Kirkland, Washington, USA Dec 31, 2007 Bottle, courtesy after4ever. Pours a clear dark brown with a thick and dense off-white head. Medium body and carbonation. Soft, toasty taste. Slightly astringent finish, the pine builds as the bottom of my glass nears. Miksu (2187), Jyväskylä, Finland Dec 27, 2007 0.5 l bottle. Overpowering aroma and flavor of chocolate malt. Some sharp alcohols and citrusy american hops in the background. Firm bitterness. tupalev (2605), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Dec 5, 2007 Bottle shared with GregClow, Jerc, and Mabel,. Greg’s bottle, or Jer’s bottle? (I think?). Wow - very nutty bitter aroma. Very very dark brown with a small slightly off-white head. Taste is incredible - so burnt and so nutty. Toasty. Medium body, nice carbonation and mouthfeel. Perfectly hopped as well. Quite simply one of the best brown ales you’ll ever have - a ton of flavour at 6%. Great, well done Mikkeller. jerc (3861), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Dec 2, 2007 Bottle. Very dark brown body with a small tan head. (3+) Modest aroma of roasty malt. Burnt nutty flavour, roast malt. Brief hints of dark dry chocolate/cocoa. Very dry finish. (7+) Average to medium palate. (3+) A very good brown ale. Rastacouere (5551), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Nov 28, 2007 Considering the style, Scores ranging from 1 to 5, 5 being the most intense

Comments: A hoppier and just generally bigger, yet very respectful and classy brown ale.
ekstedt (2411), Göteborg, Sweden Nov 8, 2007 Bottle (66 cl) from Ølbutikken, Copenhagen, Denmark. An American style brown ale with dominant piney hop aromas, and some roasted chocolate notes in the background. If I close my eyes I think I can sense some of those green pepper notes that abound in Beer Geek Breakfeast and Black Hole. Clear reddish brown with a large and long-lasting tan head, medium bodied with soft carbonation. Very bitter finish. Very nice but I would prefer the bitterness and hop aromas to be moderated a bit to give room for a more roasted malt profile.
