presario (2953), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Oct 2, 2007 Bottle BB4 July 2008. Very thick head. Dark reddish brown beer. Chocolate nut aroma. Velvety body. Excellent chocolate brown flavour and great palate. tipsytoad (83), Jersey Sep 28, 2007 Wonderful brown ale, aroma of US hops and rich malt. Taste moves from slightly burnt toast to hints of chocolate and coffee, finishing with those amarillo and centennial hops, and an expresso bitterness. Fab! FatPhil (3443), Espoo, Finland Sep 24, 2007 Bottle. Rich dark brown. Malty and coffee aroma. Taste to match - strong brown ale taste, very full bodied, coffee not too imposing. Very drinkable strong dark ale. 1FastSTi (2551), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA Sep 17, 2007 Well, it takes a lot to get much better than this as a brown ale. The beer pours to a red-hued brown body with a really creamy tan head and spotty lacing. The aroma is grainy. Fresh, crisp, clean barley, chocolate malt. Some pine/spruce hops. The flavor is crisp, barley, chocolate, light dry black patent, hoppy pine needles. The flavors and aromas are nicely blended. The palate is creamy, bitter, dry on the finish. This is definitely a phenomenal brown ale. Thanks for sharing Jason! reakt (938), Greater London, England Sep 16, 2007 Updated: Oct 26, 2008Had some big boots to fill, as I really enjoyed Beer Geek Brekkie, but this was so different I couldn’t even compare the two. Deep amber with a thick off white foam. Hoppy nose with roasted malt, orange and cocoa. Hoppy at first but then comes the sweet coffee, malt and cereal. Medium palate with a long bitter finish.. Good stuff... Take 2, bottle from BEERmerchants.com. The rubbery smokey notes eluded me last time and the cocoa is just sublime, there was a big gust of it as I removed the cap. There’s also a little caramel/sugary sweetness underneath that I failed to mention before, but much the same otherwise. Doppelganger (1353), Dry County, Arkansas, USA Sep 16, 2007 Bottle, picked up in Aarhus. Warm brown pour, big tan layer of foam settling in sticky, picture-perfect lacing. A rich full toasted grain character: soda crackers, shortbread, pastry, accented with dark toffee and fresh coffee notes. Grassy hops around the edges. Lovely coffee flavor, filled out with generous bourbon-laced pecan pie sweetness. Brisk hops, hay and resin. Does what a brown should do (comfort my soul with malty goodness), but hoppy enough to be it’s own unique creature. And better coffee character than most beers with coffee actually in them. Memorably delicious. Ughsmash (3978), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Sep 16, 2007 Bottled on 8/1/06, thanks to sk8viking! Poured clear, deep burgundy with a tall creamy beige head with big bubbles on top. The aroma picked up heaps of semi-sweet chocolate and Cascade hoppage (pine and citrus) with sweet coffee right at the back. The flavor had coffee, chocolate and some darker fruity notes along with herbal hoppage.. left chocolate and coffee sweetness with higher pine and coffee bitterness. Medium-bodied and very well-balanced on the palate with higher bitterness. Very good stuff. NosirIwont (1162), Aalborg Vestby, Denmark Sep 4, 2007 Bottle. 7 days past ’best before’. Pours a hazy mahogany colour with a big light brown head. Nice lacing. Nicely balanced malty and hoppy aroma with notes of chocolate, licorice and coffee. Flavour is fruity and malty. Finish is fruity with a licorice bitterness. Lingering apple notes. Remote notes of coffee appears as it warms. Quite an interesting brown ale; I usually find brown ales to be rather dull, but this one was something, although the ‘brown ale-ness’ was well-hidden in hops and other good stuff. Go Mikkeller! 05-09-07.
