Mar 21, 2008 1 pt .9 oz bottle purchased at Liquor Max in Loveland, CO. Pours dark brown with a large, frothy, light brown head, somewhat lasting with good lacing. Aroma is average malt (toasted grain, meal, straw), heavy hops (perfume, flowers, pine), light yeast (leather) with notes of liquorice and cola. Medium bodied, sticky texture, average carbonation, and a bitter finish. Long duration, light sweetness, heavy acidity and bitterness. Overall, a well-crafted beer but the amount of hops make it damned hard to find the chocolate malt and coffee touted to be in here. This is easily the hoppiest brown ale I have sampled.

Aug 11, 2007 Bottle (660ml) shared with HogTownHarry and biegaman -- courtesy of HogTownHarry. Pours a cloudy deep ruby-brown with an average size frothy off-white head. Aroma: Oh yeah, that smells great! Coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malt and lots of green resiny hops. Flavour’s just as good and oh so tasty: roasted malt, lots of coffee, chocolate, lots of hops and a long dry bitter finish. Medium bodied. This is simply awesome, it’s in my top 5 best Brown Ales ever for sure! Can Mikkelller do no wrong?

Oct 16, 2006 (Bottle, thanks Papsoe) Midway between a brown ale and a barley wine. Sweet and sour, packed with fruity flavours. Beautiful.

Jun 21, 2008 Bottle. Large tan head with a good amount of lacing, hazy, and a brown hue. The aroma was malt, toasty, chocolate, citrus hops, and grapefruit. Ditto for the flavor. Medium bodied. Quaffable, easy to drink, lingering hoppy aftertaste, worthy of a try, and I would enjoy drinking this beer again if it comes my way again. Nicely done!

Apr 13, 2008 Bottle during Max’s 72 Hour Belgian Beer Fest. Brown bodied. Very malty and hoppy aroma with some caramel coming through in spots. Taste is hoppy and malty. More caramel, somewhat nutty (maybe chocolate covered peanuts?) and milky hazelnut coffee. Body is moderately carbonated and has a medium overall feel. This is completed with more nutty flavors, hops, chocolate, roasty malts and soft coffee. Nice brown!

Dec 24, 2008 Bottle. Black beer with a reddish tinge. The aroma is malty, and the flavour is malty and quite deeply bitter. Overall a nice deeply bitter and malty beer.

Dark reddish brown coloured, big pale beige head, light roasted nose with notes of chocolate. Roasted malt, coffee, chocolate and mild hoppy taste with notes of caramel and wood. Strong bitter finish.

May 7, 2007 Clear brown color, short off-white head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolat, coffee, licorice, some hop. Quite bitter taste, lots of chocolat and malts, bit sweet, creamy, coffee. Intense, very nice balance. Longlasting finish of bitter chocolat.
