The flavor is chocolate and roasted malt with a bitter hop finish. The brew is quite complex yet well-balanced. A pleasure to drink. kappldav123 (1897), Markkleeberg, Germany
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 23, 2009 The bottle looks great, the beer in the glass also. Starts malty and dry, notes of strong coffee and bitter chocolate. Finish like velvet, very drinkable. Really good! emacgee (1892), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Mar 20, 2008 Picked up from Bruisin Ales. Pours a hazy brown, allows more light through than I would have expected. Has a two finger creamy sticky light tan head. The aroma is sweet, hoppy, chocolaty, malty. The flavor is very hoppy and waxy, chocolaty, roasty, a lactose flavor too. Nice smooth palate with a lot of hop bitterness. iowaherkeye (1890), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 21, 2008 500mL bottle, no date. Clear ruby brown with one finger beige head, fair retention. Aroma is full of toasted grain and toasty hazelnuts--not sweet hazelnut extract like Rogue Hazelnut Brown--with some light vanilla and roasted grain in the background. Flavor has even more roast than the aroma had led on, with some added piney hops. The nuts and toasted grain is still there, but seems to take a bit of a backseat. Bone dry finish with some lingering bitterness peaking around a 3-4. Moderate carbonation that’s creamy and prickly with a light to medium body. This turned out to be pretty tasty, and a not so run-of-the-mill brown ale. Beerdedone (1888), Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA

Aroma is roasty and hoppy with rich coffee, chocolate and notes of nuttiness. Flavor is strong and rich with dark roasted coffee, roasted malts, light chocolate, nuts and a touch of caramel with a medium body and a bitter hoppy finish. nearbeer (1886), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 17, 2008 500 ml. A see-through, dark copper-brown brew with a four-finger head that sticks everywhere. Aroma is big hops - citrus, floral, and resin notes. Flavor is similar, with a bit of cocoa and toasted nut flavors able to battle through the hops. Some nice roasted notes finally show up in the aftertaste about 8 oz. into this one. Smooth, near-medium body finishes slightly dry and tingly. Mixed feelings about how to rate this nice-enough tasting session ale. It disappoints a bit as a brown due to the lack of maltiness, but is pretty good if I thought I was in the mood for a heavier APA. Beer2000 (1860), Kristiansand, Norway
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Jun 12, 2007 660ml bottle. Deep brown body with a small beige head. Aroma is strong malty, hoppy and caramel. Flavor is delicious malty, hoppy, caramel, coffee and slightly roasted. Very nice indeed. mgumby10 (1858), Jupiter, Florida, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 4, 2008 Pours brown, with a medium, foamy light brown head. Smells of an assortment of nuts, a little roast, malt, and hops in the end. The flavor has a much bigger dosage of hops than I was expecting. The nutty and malty flavors get mixed in, but the hops seemed to be the most prominent of the bunch. Decent bitterness to it in the finish. Maybe a little too hoppy for a brown for me, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.
