| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 23, 2008 Bottle pours black and ruby highlights with a monster creamy looking white head with clingy lace – interesting to look at the head/beer line as it is very distinct (not sure if this makes any sense, but it looks great this way). The aroma is hops, yeast, roasted darkness, smoke, and freshly pulled resinous ganja (in theory, not practice). The flavor has lots fresh tasting hops, anise, solid roasted malts, inevitable ale fruit notes, more bitterness, and just overall very delicious. This is an awesome Brown, but so hard to rate after the awesome beers I’ve rated this evening. Of note here are the hops that taste so fresh against the chocolate and coffee backbone. This is very interesting. spector (906), Lancaster, Ohio, USA

The smell is absolutely awesome. Never have I been impressed with a brown ale until now. Find me a better brown than this. Colossal light brown crown with very good retention and lots of layered lacing fossilizing on my glass. Great aromas of ghaggghhhhhllll (yes, this is the sound I made upon first smelling it - it’s a good sound, I swear), very weak coffee blended with the dark citrus hops really make this beer exceptionable, dirty, dusty chocolate, almost has an american barley wine smell, fake blueberry, there is also something here that, if it had a hell of a lot more power would be pretty stinky - either way, it’s making my mouth water. Nice flavours of roasted malts, caramel, weak but bitter coffee, bakers chocolate, unsweetened grapefruit hops dominate the hop portion with slight apricot, weak spruce and a medicinal quality finishing off that feature. Some earthy nuances, more dark fruit when warmer. Finishes less than impressive - the bitterness almost nullifies the goodness. Medium to medium full bodied, Lengthy drying bitterness. Well, this sure started off well but it just cannot finish. Disappointing finish for sure. Still, This is really good and probably the best brown I’ve ever had. elektronikfagtekniker (892), kbh, Denmark

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Apr 11, 2008 Dark brown with a thick off white hide. Aroma was strong coffee, chocolate, hazelnut, and roast malts. Flavor kind of falls off a bit. The hops are pretty forward in this and just don’t blend very well. The coffee and chocolate that smelled great just taste off. GMCC2181 (881), Bear/Elkton, Delaware, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 18, 2008 Nice brown/amber color. Monster head, which was a frosty/creamy color. When I smelled this beer I got punched in the nose by hops. I wanst expecting that at all. It also smelled like a brown ale. At first, the taste the hops hits you. Seconds later, a smooth taste of nutty roasted malt. Good texture. It has the perfect blend of hops and brown ale characteristics. This could easily be an every day drinker. One of my new favorite beers! GodOfThunder (878), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 3, 2009 Pours brown with a tan head. A ton of coffee in the nose with a slight tart or bitterness. Flavor has more of the coffee with a good amount of bitterness, too. Tastes like a strong cup of dark roasted coffee, black. Nice brew.
