Aroma of coffee and chocolate, rum, and some spicy hops. the body is very full and well balanced by some very aggressive hopping of what might be fuggles. A big complement of dark malt also delivers some big coffee flavours. the finish is quite hoppy and bitter, with some warming alcohol too. Its a big beer, and in my opinion it almost nudged the class of a porter. deyholla (761), Bloomington, Indiana, USA

Aroma is one and all coffee, the beer has a fine malty nose and a well integrated touch of black chocolate and some minty herbs. Its remiends me of a well made Irish Coffee without the alcohol attack in the nose. The taste is well in ballans, it has a soft mouthfeel and an elegant smoothness. The beer is malty, has lots of coffee and chocolate hints and also a nice unthelaying structure of mushrooms and forrest soil. Again a very interesting brew from Mikkeller. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 18, 2007 Almondy nose balanced with sweet malts. Pours like new 10W30 oil brown but a bit less viscous. Pale tan head with pleasant retention. Hoppy, but does not over power the well rounded body. A crisp hop finish taps you on the nose and tounge. Groovy, Baby! Thanks to Maria for this one. weaselkenievil (738), Cheshire, England
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 25, 2009 Very dark brown with lasting light brown head. First impression of the aroma was slightly poo like till the sweetness and hops kick in. Great smell. The chocolate malts are evident in the flavour, nice amount of hops, little coffee and something sweeter like vanilla. Again, I’m very impressed by a Mikkeller brew. hammenlind (738), Sundbyberg, Sweden

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Jan 27, 2007 I’ve always maintained that brown al;es are just plain boring. This beer has completely changed my perceptions. Medium brown in colour, it is deceptively pale for the depth of aroma and flavour that it holds. I mean really, I did not expect anything like the flavour hit that this beer has. The bitterness in this beer is just like that of dark chocolate, it’s just so pleasant and integrated. Wonderful nutty malt flavours, a little bit of coffee and all sorts of goodness coming from the very subtle hop additions. Just a fantastically balanced beer. jhumphries69 (736), Tyrone, Georgia, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jun 22, 2008 Updated: Jun 23, 2008375ml bottle. Pours a deep, hazy brown - dark with ruby and copper highlights. The head pours light tan in color and very thick. The head is soft and tightly bubbled - light egg-whites. It leaves a lot of thick, uneven patches and legs of lace all over the glass. The aroma is astounding - the perfect blend of citrus hops, coffee and roasted grains, and dark caramel. The flavor starts quite hoppy with citrus/grapefruit flavors. As the beer slides toward mid-palate, the roasted grain and chocolate flavors slowly build. At mid-palate there is a pleasant mix of citrusy bitter hops and roasted grains. The finish is dry and hoppy with a strong hop bitterness and a deep, coffee-like, roasted grain flavor. The mouthfeel is medium in body and somewhat creamy. The carbonation level is firm but not too vigorous. Overall, a nice beer - much hoppier and much more citrus than I was expecting. It could use a little less bitterness and a touch more chocolate/nutty character, considering it is suppoed to be a brown ale. But still, a very tasty offering.
