The taste is complex with notes of chocolate and coffe. Some bitterhops at the end. A bit to bitter for me. craftycarl21 (560), South Hero, Vermont, USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 16, 2009 330ml bottle. Another great brew from Mikkeller. Poured a deep dark brown, bordering on black with a large rich creamy tan head. Wonderful coffee aromas assault the nose and are highlighted by strong burnt flavours that dominate the palate, sharp and bitter with a long finish. Rynoplasty (543), Louisville, Kentucky, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 5, 2008 Pours a chestnut brown, small head formation. Aroma is roasted nuts, coffee, malts, some vanilla. The flavor is robust yet balanced. The roasted component comes through nicely, with the coffee not present in the aroma coming on a bit stronger on the finish. The ore I drink this, the more I like it. Served chilled in a mug.
Pours a creamy inch of tan head atop a deep copper-brown body.
Rich nose packed full of roasted malts; burnt toffee, chocolate, coffee, touch of charcoal, with resiny hop citrus cutting through very nicely.
Good thick mouthfeel, smooth texture, carbonation quite soft. Lengthy agressive bitterness cuts through early on and hangs on, and on...
A good battle is fought between hop and malt balance. Plenty of chocolatey maltiness, a touch of liquorice, toffee and coffee in the mix, assaulted by grapefruit, unripe stonefruit, grass and resineous leafiness of the hops. Hugely drawn out finish, slight grain astrigency and assertive bitterness linger, begging for more liquid...luckily my glass ain’t empty yet!
A very full on American-style Brown ale. I’d argue that the malt and hop flavours are nice but a bit incoherent together, but I really enjoyed it!

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 31, 2008 HUGE thanks to GMCC2181 for sending this one my way. I’d waited a long time to try this! I was a little weirded out by the fact that this is one hoppy brown ale! I expected something more subtle, but this brew was crazy (in a good way). Texture is very thin, but with a thick head. Aroma is hops and stale coffee, like you are reusing a glass you drank an IPA in (which I thought I was at first!). No lacing. This one has a lot going on, nice notes of malt, coffee, and hops. I would say this is a "Coffee IPA" if I was describing it to someone. I would like to try it again sometime. When you absolutely positively got to drink every motherfu*king brown ale in the room...accept no substitutes! Thanks again Gabe!!
