Herbal, sweet, chocolatish, caramelly and full of brown sugar in the aroma. Flavour has coffeenotes, light chocosweetness and is heavily hopped. Brown sugar and roast is present. Medium to full bodied. .Ends on a heavy bitter. One hoppy motherfucker of a Brown Ale. MoritzF (5029), Bochum, Germany

Sweet and deep strongly roasted malt profile in the nose with notes of chocolate, coffee, liquorice, nettles and a tinge of fruity hops in the back. Moderately sweet and roasty bitter flavour, medium bodied with a soft carbonation. Quite dry mouthfeel, robust roast-malty taste with notes of milky mocha, chocolate, liquorice and an aromatic presence of subtle fruity hops in the background; pretty dry and roasty bitter and hoppy finish. Very nice, makes me think of a slightly diluted Imp. Stout. 15.XI.09 yngwie (5000), Kristiansand, Norway

Roasted malt, fruityness, hops and some alcohol in the aroma. Alcohol, roasted malt and hop-fruityness in the flavor. Drying finish. Another well-brewed beer from Mikkeller, this lovely brown ale. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 6, 2008 This poured a clear reddish brown body with a HUGE rocky, light beige head that coated the glass with thick lacework. The aroma is an interesting blend of yellow grapefruit and citrus zest, bitter nuts, caramelly malts, coffee, and bittersweet chocolate. Nice & crisp sharp flavors reflect the sensations from the nose. The citric and nut bitterness remains a strong constant throughout the drink. Interestingly, a touch of aniseed joins the fray near the finish. Not too shabby.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 17, 2008 Ruby chestnut color with a very tall, lasting dark beige head. Chocolate, darker malts, and plenty of hops. There is something about the hops and malt combination in a brown that is not that appealing to me. Crisp and clean feeling liquid, nearly lager like. Somewhat toasty and nutty malt taken back by Herbal and slightly citric hops bitterness. Things stay bitter will into the linger. I slight return of malt would have been pleasant. As it is an interesting hoppy brown brew. jbrus (4895), Delft, Netherlands
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Sep 10, 2006 Bottled, LCRBM. Aroma of blackcurrant and loads of hops. Cloudy, dark brown color, yellowish head, good lace. Sweet and way too much bitter hops for me. Dry mouthfeel of course. BückDich (4857), McCall, Idaho, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 27, 2008 Bottle: Pours a deep ebony mahogany color with a huge puffy tan head that stays put for a while, thick lacing and plenty of carbonation. The nose is roasty with a snap of hops, bitter chocolate and light roasted coffee. More sweet and aromatic than dark and menacing. Ample chocolate malts, minimal patents. The flavor is especially bitter but it balances up the roasty astringency and after the battle is over, you’re left with a light sweet coffee roast note on your palate that’s along. Simply to be enjoyed as is. The finish brings out more bitterness so you’re constantly wanting another drink to stay in the roasty purgatory in between bitterness. Refreshing and thought provoking. I like it, good name. Tmoney99 (4783), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA

Poured a dark brown color with a large frothy light brown head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Heavy toasted sweet malt and chocolate espresso aroma. Medium body. Solid bittersweet toasted flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Good complex brew.
