The aroma is nicely hoppy with caramel and nuts. Very much a US style brown ale aroma. The taste is lovely: good hops, nuts and caramel, lovely chocolate malts; some roastiness. A very very nice beerScore 4.1 Subsequent ratings scored 4.1, 4.1, 3.9 and 3.7. Average becomes 4.0 leaparsons (4755), Leicester, Leicestershire, England
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 30, 2008 Bottle. Dark red brown with an off-white foam. Aromas are nutty and spicy with chocolate and roast malts. Woody and yeasty. Flavours are very bitter coffee with yeast and spices. Peppery and prickly with some sweet cola. Burnt, woody notes come through along with grapefruit bitterness on the finish. Good stuff. ChristianScheffel (4679), Odense, Denmark
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Sep 12, 2006 Very dark, ruby brown, with a medium lasting tan head leaving some lacing. Aroma is roast malt and chocolate, with a powerful, but not overpowering hop presence. Coffee bitterness from the chocolate malt blends perfectly with the hop bitterness for a great, great flavour - unless you like brown ales for their sweetness...

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 3, 2008 Bottle. Pours hazy dark brown with 3-finger tan head. Aroma was roasty malty, with brown sugar, mild chocolate, and mild hops. Tastes rich, roasty malty, with some brown sugary nuts, mild chocolate, and a solid dose of finishing hops. This one is a nice take on a rather boring style. Lubiere (4552), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
