Powerfull hoppy aroma, not so much caramellic. Extremely powerfull hoppy/bitter flavor. Long finish. Oily palate. Too powerfull to create complex notes. tiggmtl (4311), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 24, 2009 Thick rich chewy chocaltey malt aroma with plenty of citrus hop character in the nose. Opaque brown body is topped by a decent and lasting tan head that leaves some spotty lacing. Thick round malt flavours offer chocolate and biscuit and toasty notes coupled with fairly assertive bitterness. Medium body with pleasantly prickly carbonation. Tulip glass. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 4, 2008 500 ml bottle. Aroma of citrus and pine. Unexpected. Dark mahogany color with a multifinger beige head. Medium body with coarse carbonation. Piney hop instantly followed by a lot of coffee. A little light stone fruit slips in, then it’s back to hops and coffee. Suddenly some chocolate is noticeable along the edges of my tongue. It’s very pleasing in the mouth. Expensive, but ya gotta pay what ya gotta pay - just not every day. The finish doesn’t quit - the flavors stay until the end. This is hop conquering malt, but in a refined, gentle manner. Lot of hop though. BBB63 (4232), La Porte, Indiana, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 26, 2008 Bottle and served in standard pint glass: Beautiful mahogany hue with a fluffy off-white head and good lace. The aroma has notes of anise, coffee, bakers chocolate, walnut, charred and crystal malt, and some grassy hops. The taste is shockingly bitter with the coffee and hops attacking the palate with nonsensical brashness. The softer sweet malts and light handed spices are very much a bit player in this act. Dry ashy and chalky finish, like sucking on the husk of walnut shell.
I dunno, part of it is good to very good but that finish is not exactly what I want in my beers unless there is more sweetness to counterbalance the bitterness. cgarvieuk (4183), Edinburgh, Scotland
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jul 1, 2007 Bottle at home ... and my first mild disapointment from Mikkeller ... Deep red brown ... roastmalt nose .. lotsoffizz little raw alcohol ... lots and lots of bitter hop linger ... some roast coffee way too bitter for me. SilkTork (4173), Rochester, Kent, England
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 3, 2009 330ml bottle from Beers of Europe. A strong stout - assertive bitter flavours from both hop and malt, chocolate and coffee being dominant. Greasy mouthfeel. Alcohol heat - a bit crude for this strength. There’s an awkwardness between the light citrus notes and the heavy dark bitterness - tangy citrus notes would work, but these light summery ones don’t sit well. Drinkable, with interesting red berry fruits, but overall just a bit too assertively bitter and crude for my taste. A bit like chewing pipe tobacco - you’ll get plenty of flavours, and it’ll be interesting, but it won’t be that all pleasant. Skinnyviking (4157), Copenhagen, Denmark

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 19, 2007 Poured a clear dark chestnut color with a medium sized beige head. Roasted malt aroma with notes of coffee, hops, and chocolate cookies. Roasted malt flavor that was semi-sweet and short. Very dry finish with a moderate bitterness and maybe a hint of pine. The bitterness at the end was very long and kept growing.
