Aroma is caramel, nuts, hops, malt and even some faint coffee. Flavor is creamy as hell, nuts, coffee candy, malt and great hop balance. Wow. CaryTheDude (1113), Longmont, Colorado, USA

Beautiful in every way. Lots of bittering hops that are overwhelming at first then mellow into something incredibly pleasing. Just great. Ceebs25 (231), Naperville, Illinois, USA

I love the hop character right away but this is what i’d expect from Mikkeller. Very pleasant and well balanced aroma, with a good amount of almond nuttiness, roasty caramels, coffee, chocolate, pale malt, earth, spruce, and tangy citrus, with each aspect contributing a rather equal amount to the smell. Pretty looking pour as well, the head is large, rather thick, and creamy tan while the body looks much less dense but definitely not light, and honey brown in color. A great creamy feel on the body that would be otherwise fairly subdued without the strong hop presence that builds as the swallow goes forth. Much of the similar balance seen in the aroma comes forth in the taste as well. It starts out more rich roasted caramel nutty with some coffee, mixed cereal, and licorice, with a wave a bitterness coming in shorty after with more herbal citrus notes than the aroma, some acidic grapefruit that combines with the more roasted coffee/brown malts to make a very solid finish and linger. This really is a brown ale done right. NomDeBeer (400), Maryland, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 7, 2009 Pours a thin yet dark brown color with a fluffy, off-white head. Aroma is mostly citrus hops. Taste is a little dark bitter chocolate, coffee, grapefruit, and ash. Soft, smooth mouthfeel. Nice lacing too. Plenty of bitter hoppiness in the back of the throat - more than expected for a brown ale. Very enjoyable. folkbeer (3), Toronto, Ontario, Canada does not count | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Oct 12, 2008 Bottle shared with Paul at Volo.
This is remarkably complex and flavourful. Pours dark, dark brown with a head that is light and creamy, maybe "frothy"...but unfortunately not long lasting. Aroma is a perfect balance of cherries, coffee roast and chocolate. A light, malty feel. Big coffee bean flavour with delicious chocolate and light fruit, all very balanced. Bitter finish that leaves you wanting to experience it all over again. beerinmarch (2781), Alabama, USA

Fantastic and quite different aroma of coffea, licorice, smoke, roasted malt & hops. First impression does not get any better. It has a taste of hops which is too strong in my opinion, but actually gives it a hint of IPA to the Brown Ale...An Indian Brown Ale maybe...
Has a loooonng aftertaste of coffea. Might be good with a dessert. A very interesting beer, but it smells & looks better than it taste even though the taste is good as well. jah noth (1016), Rochester, New York, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 31, 2008 Burnt caramel aroma and light toast. Brown in color with a THICK, frothy and rocky head. Light black malts, toffee, peanuts and a zing of spicy, citric hops. Slight sourness is a minor detractions, but otherwise a definitive craft brew.
