Served chilled in a mug.
Pours a creamy inch of tan head atop a deep copper-brown body.
Rich nose packed full of roasted malts; burnt toffee, chocolate, coffee, touch of charcoal, with resiny hop citrus cutting through very nicely.
Good thick mouthfeel, smooth texture, carbonation quite soft. Lengthy agressive bitterness cuts through early on and hangs on, and on...
A good battle is fought between hop and malt balance. Plenty of chocolatey maltiness, a touch of liquorice, toffee and coffee in the mix, assaulted by grapefruit, unripe stonefruit, grass and resineous leafiness of the hops. Hugely drawn out finish, slight grain astrigency and assertive bitterness linger, begging for more liquid...luckily my glass ain’t empty yet!
A very full on American-style Brown ale. I’d argue that the malt and hop flavours are nice but a bit incoherent together, but I really enjoyed it!
