Commercial Description:
Brewed by Mikkeller at Ørbæk Bryggeri, Ørbæk, Denmark.
Mikkellers tribute to the foul-mouthed stewardess Jackie Brown from Quentin Tarantino’s movie of the same name. It’s a roasty, chocolaty brown ale with hints of coffee and licorice. Being a Mikkeller brew the malts are inevitably complimented by a great amount of hop bitterness, aroma and flavour.
Ingredients : Water, malt (pale, munich, cara-pils, cara-crystal, brown and chocolate), flaked oats, hops (nugget, simcoe and centennial) and ale yeast.

750ml bottle. Pours a clear, deep brown colored body with a reddish tint. Two-finger width, rocky, tan head that dissipates slowly and leaves a good amount of lacing. Lots of herbal, sprucey citrus hops on the aroma up front. If I dig a little deeper I get some weak chocolate, nuts, and roast, but not much. Flavor is an inherent earthy and herbal hop without much of a malt backing. There is a light nutty toast, chocolate, and roast, but not much. Finishes with a dry, slightly resiny citrus and lingers with lots of herbal bite for a good amount of time. A hint of astringent roast comes through in the finish as well. Medium body with a creamy carbonation. Overall, disappointing. Almost no sweetness to accompany the hops and barely a trace of roasty chocolate. Not a huge fan of this brown ale soley focussed on the herbal hops.

50cl bottle from Barley Wine. Best before 2009-12-13. It poured a medium dark brown colour with a huge off-white creamy head that settled down slow in the glass. Some oxidation. Aroma is hoppy. Notes of coffee. The flavour is bitter, notes of hops, coffee and malts. Some liqorice as well. Medium long aftertaste. I’d say this is closer to a porter than a brown ale, but it’s a nice beer overall.

Bottled 330ml. Quite pleasant nose with resiny hops being rather prominent. A hint of spring onion sneaking in unfortunately (which I found in some Mikkeller beers, most present in the warrior IPA). A touch of licorice showing up. And as you dig deeper, wow- lavender and rosemary emerge. Complex. Strong bitterness in the taste. Chocolatey on the swallow. Great bitter chocolatey finish.

Dark mahogany in color with a moderate, white head. Aroma of cocoa, vanilla and coffee. Starts out with hops and finishes with a bit of chocolate.

14/11/2009. 33cl bottle from Hashigo Zake before heading down to see the All Whites qualify for the 2010 World Cup. Milk chocolate and spice. Malt character a little tired and the beer (I can only guess) has dried out a fair bit more than it would be at its best... leaving the hops a little harsh and grassy. Still very pleasant but it didn’t quite live up to the anticipation - but the football did!

(bottle, 33cl) Darkest brown colour with a light ruby shine and a small beige foamy head. Sweet and deep strongly roasted malt profile in the nose with notes of chocolate, coffee, liquorice, nettles and a tinge of fruity hops in the back. Moderately sweet and roasty bitter flavour, medium bodied with a soft carbonation. Quite dry mouthfeel, robust roast-malty taste with notes of milky mocha, chocolate, liquorice and an aromatic presence of subtle fruity hops in the background; pretty dry and roasty bitter and hoppy finish. Very nice, makes me think of a slightly diluted Imp. Stout. 15.XI.09

20th July 2008. Brown beer. Distinct chocloate tone but it jars against the very bitter hop finish. Better when it warms up a bit - doesn’t clash quite as much but these flavours are uncomfortable bed fellows. Conscious of my comparatively low rating have since retried this beer but still fail to see why it averages 3.7.

Poured a coffeeish dark brown. Nose is quite floral and sweet - like some type of candy. In the mouth was more sweetness with some good hops. Almost in IPA territory. Quite a good little beer but quite expensive for what it is.
