Tannish head- dark fruits come up at first, raisins and prunes-yeast produced belgian esters follow, then quickly finish into a nicely roasted/toasty end. Not completely boozy, which was surprising considering the abv. Well done beer- enjoyed. Bigmmartin (208), Dayton, Ohio, USA Aug 23, 2008 Bottle. I’m with 1_2many on this one, would not have guessed it was a Belgian ale. Looked like a stout or porter. Almost complete black in color with a dark brown head. Aroma was spicy malt and some dark fruits. Flavor is the same, with strong notes of sour, tangy, fruits...but with a strong sweet malt profile as well. An intense and interesting beer. 1_2many (231), Ohio, USA Aug 21, 2008 Bottle. Probably one of the most interesting looking belgian strong ales I’ve seen. It could pass for a porter or stout on appearance. Intricate lacing as well. Aroma is dark malt, dark fruit, and some sourness that reminds me of wine. Flavor is sweet with a nice tanginess. Palate is very nice. I tried to think of a way to bring it down to a 4 and couldn’t. In my own opinion the carbonation, mouthfeel, and aftertaste are perfect. Great beer.
