| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 14, 2009 Let’s pit the Simcoe Single Hop versus the Nugget, Warrior, and Cascade versions.
Appearance: Pours out cloudy, burnt orange body with a full inch of lasting, off-white foam.
Smell: Delicately toasted malts with notes of cookies and grains with a rich scent of sugar-flecked citrus wedges spritzed with pine.
Taste: Lightly toasted base maltiness with a touch of dry caramel and crumbled cookies, though with only a light, restrained amount of sweetness. The Simcoe hops serve up a fresh taste of citrus, particularly grapefruit, and a nice, spicy ’pop’ of white pine. Moderate bitterness. Finishes dry, crisp, and with some continued bitterness into the aftertaste.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium-plus carbonation.
Drinkability: I certainly enjoy the concept of a single hop series to really enjoy all the various vibrant nuances and characteristics of the particular hop varieties utilized. While this was previously done by Bison, I had no love for the base beer used, so I quickly abandoned the idea of following that series. I’m diggin’ this though! probstk (1064), Nepean, Ontario, Canada
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 8, 2009 33 cl bottle from Bieropholie, served cold in a tulip glass.
App.: Murky orange-amber with tan flecks of yeast.
Aroma: I get some caramelized onion – sniffed it over and over and even rinsed the glass and I still get it; the hops is a a lot of orange marmalade, a bit pine, a little earthy/woodsy, the malts are present as caramel and toffee.
Palate: Medium body, very full effervescence.
Flav.: That fried onion taste is there but much more subdued, the bitter orange comes through, it is earthier here, still some cara-malt backbone; lightly sweet and nicely bitter with some citrus and caramel to finish.
I love Mikkeller, so I’m having a hard time with this onion thing. Seems to be more in the head than the actual liquid. Still nice stuff, but I gotta score it down a little. Hope I get another bottle sooner than daknole (3023), Scottsdale, Arizona, USA

Aroma is pretty damn strong and better than most imperial IPAs. Flavor is bittersweet, hoppy with a nice malty compliment. A little grapefruit as well. It’s all about the Simcoe. Great IPA, but I don’t think I’m as much of a Simcoe fanatic as some people. Can’t wait to try the other single hop beers. AndyReynolds (288), Wilder, Kentucky, USA

Aroma is strong with hops and a bit of sweet malt. Notes of tropical fruit (mainly pineapple and mango), citrus, grass, and pine stand out. On the palate, it is smooth and refreshing. The flavor really brings out the citrus hops and finishes with a nice bitter bite. A have found a new favorite IPA. scrizzz (1325), kirkland, Washington, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Aug 4, 2009 Wow. Cat piss and poverty. Mildew and shame. Muddied muted bronze. Fierce and painful. Nice experience, and I’m glad to isolate the simcoe hop in my mouth, but offensive as a whole. bitbucket (2036), Kirkland, Washington, USA
