Mikkeller Single Hop Warrior IPA

Bottled 330ml. -from Bierkonig Amsterdam. Costs 4.80€. Orange/amber coloured, medium sized off-white head, hoppy fruity nose. Mild roasted malt, decent hoppy, some caramel and coffee with fruity citrusy notes. Heavy bitterness, dry bitter finish and long-lasting bitter aftertaste. Very good IPA.

Floral and citrus aroma. Cloudy orange color with a large off white head. Bitter up front and sweet long in to the beginning developing some more bitterness at the end. Lightly silk palate.

330 ml bottle. Amber. Light haze. Thick white head that clings to the glass. Sugary sharp hop juice aroma. Malty and rich but hops dominate. Very bitter.

Bottle. Moderate caramel for the malt, moderate herbs and lemon for the hops, light mold for the yeast, with hints of pepper and vinegar. Head is average size, frothy/foamy, off-white with fair lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is murky orange/tan with lots of small particles. Flavor starts faintly sweet, moderately acidic and a touch sour, then finishes moderately acidic and sour and heavily bitter. Palate is medium, watery with a lively carbonation and a very dry finish. A good beer, but my least favorite of the Single Hop IPAs.

Pours dark amber with a large persistent head and loads of lacing. Aroma is sweet with pineapple confectionery, bubblegum, and spicy and woody notes. Not exceedingly hoppy like the other Mikkeller IPA’s. There’s also some doughy, hay-like aroma that reminds me of the Unibroue house yeast. Later on coriander also becomes apparent. These are some weird hops! Upon tasting, there’s a hint of sweet caramel malt and hoppy resin before a tsunami of green, piney bitterness comes and wipes it out, lasting long after swallowing. The carbonation is on the high side in this, probably contributing to the harsh, dry finish.

Pours orange amber with a white head. Nose is floral hops, slight fruitiness, and apricot. Flavor is similar with decent amount of malt. Light to medium bodied and pretty nice overall.

The Dan Journal #285. Tasted 8/21/09. Third of five of the Mikkeller Single Hop beers. Mild and faint grapefruit aromas. Toasty caramel malts. Medium bodied with a bitter and tart palate. Dry finish. Hops are earthy and fruity. This was my second favorite of the bunch.

Poured a murky darker orange-brown body with a big thick off white head that stayed for a while (doubt it listened though). A herbal agrumey earthy, maybe kinda piney aroma hop nose with some sweet maltiness. The taste is dominated by a huge bitterness, kinda crude and going into coffee territory at times. Up front too. Agrumey, sweetish notes + some pine. A lasting bitter aftertaste, kinda crude again. Tasty in a way and interesting but hardly groundbreaking. Interesting hop, that Warrior.
