Gusler (2656), Tucson, Arizona, USA Dec 13, 2007 Upon the pour from the 500ml bottle, it appears a slightly hazy amber with a two-fingered creamy white head that fades leaving a complete blanket of lace upon the glass. Nose has a delicious hop floral aroma, followed quickly by the sweet malt, crisp and clean, mouthwatering. Start has a delectable malt presence, hop bitter at the back, somewhat sweet with the top moderate in feel. Finish has a persistent acidity, the hops powerful and spicy, aftertaste is bone dry and the hops stick to the palate, quite a refreshing beer.
chrisafari (53), Orange, California, USA Jul 17, 2008 Bottle from Vendome Liquor, Fullerton Ca. Pours rich amber orange with a fluffy/creamy tan head. Sweet aroma of hops/citrus/floral. Flavor begins mellow and easy, then becomes nice and hoppy. The flavor develops from a fresh hoppiness into a smooth carmel malt finish. The last sensation is a kick of a dry hoppy throat. Nice lacing throughout. Overall a good IPA in the American style. Well done, but a little pricey. robforbes (618), Bremerton, Washington, USA Jul 17, 2008 pours a clear orange-amber with a large foamy dirty white head, good lacing.
smell is very pronounced, floral, malt, caramel, citrus, hops.
taste is creamy, grapefruit hops, touch of nutmeg, some nuts, malt in the back, touch of caramel, nice bitter finish. Schultsc (393), Henderson, Nevada, USA Jul 16, 2008 Light orange-gold with a medium-dense, medium-thick light tan head. Some sweet malt and herbal hops over some citrus notes in the aroma. Dense hops bitterness in the flavor followed by alcohol and malt astringency. Hops is largely non-descript with some dry herbaceousness. Somewhat flat mouthfeel from a deadened hops profile and slightly out of balance alcohol. redlight (1029), Winter Park, Florida, USA Jul 14, 2008 Very balanced aroma, sweet citrus with hints of grassy pine with caramel malt notes. Pours golden amber with a thin white head. Very good IPA, sweet malts upfront with some rich honey and brown sugar flavors, followed by bitter citrus and very resiny pine. It finishes dry with sticky pine resins in the aftertaste. Very good balance. unclemattie (1518), Georgia, USA Jul 12, 2008 My 100th IPA rating and #1499!: 22oz bottle. Pours a lusting gold with a huge foam of golden suds floating on the surface. Beautiful citrus hop aroma. Sweet and resiny. I love the aroma of Amarillo! Mouthfeel is strangely unique. Sweet full flavored, full bodied malt character. Just as you swallow the first sip, the hop bite kicks in. Sharp, smooth, bitter, and sweet. All together. Sweet at first then the heat. Just like the plate of thai food I ate as I enjoyed this bottle. And a perfect pairing. This beer is extremely pleasent, balanced, and a new favorite of mine.
