Aroma is yeasty and rubbery with slight hints of bitter black chocolate and touches of cold bitter coffee. There are also accents of pineneedles and vegetal hints like from bayleaf and parcely. The taste is quite dry and has lots of green bitters. Again coffee and chiccoree, caramelzed Belgian andives too. In the finale, the crisp bitters of flowers, green herbs and pineneedles are dominating in the afthertaste. The finale is very dry with burned bitters, hints of racetrack rubber and some well hidden tart accents that ads a crispy edge to this brew.

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Dec 18, 2009 We (with Fistfull and Twindog) can’t believe we found this beer; especially, since it is retired! Stout dark, slightly murky with a light, small bubble structured head with tinges of chesnut brown lacing in foam - beautiful head, even though light. Filberts, powdered cocoa, walnuts perfume this uniquely crafted beer. A malolactic sourness - think light gueze - hits up front before deep tones of coffee, brown sugar (but not sweet) and spices raise their heads to produce an extremely interesting array of flavors these tasters have yet to encounter. After drinking five different Thomas Hardy ales (ranging from 1986 - 1995) in a vertical tasting last week, we couldn’t help noticing the similarities in style even though the alcohol content pales by comparrison. A sensational, one-of-a-kind brew we’re glad to have been afforded the luck to taste! Wim (1321), Turnhout, Belgium

| 4.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Dec 12, 2009 Pours an opaque sable with a thick, fine-bubbled tan head. Aroma is smoky with strong tones of coffee and unsweetened chocolate - very mouth-watering. Rich flavor is like mocha with a hoppy undertone and hints of smoke, sweetness, molasses, toffee and spice. Ragged, lively, tingly texture is a great finish to this winner of a beer. stobbe74 (714), Denmark
