| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Nov 4, 2009 Pours Clear brown with a tall thick creamy head.Great aroma very hoppy, fresh and floral with a hint of brett. The flavour is very complex. Strong hoppy flavour like an american IPA strong and flaral with a very welcome bitterness, and very citrus as well. you can really taste the Amarillo hops. The finish is a bit malty with the sourness of the brett coming through. There is a slight chocolate flavour mid palate and the whole flavour lingers and really stays with you. This is one of the Best Beers I have ever had. It is as if they have taken my 2 favorite styles, (American IPA, and Orval) and forced them together like an amazing beergasam that starts out soo strong and intenses, them amplifies, and finishes in the most interesting way. And then stays with you all night. All in all Awesome.

Pours slightly hazy brownish amber with a large, fluffy beige head that lasts ages with plenty of lace. Hoppy aroma has notes of toffee, pine, lemon, grapefruit with a hint of brett funkiness. Flavour is also hoppy but is just as malty with notes of caramel, citrus, pine, tropical fruit, nuts and brett. Medium body with a moderate amount of prickly carbonation and a long, bitter, almost sour finish. I agree that this seems more like an American than a Belgian strong ale, although there is a definite Belgian slant, but either way this is a great beer and another highly successful experiment from Mikkeller. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 23, 2009 Big bottle, shared over the year’s first Thursday night football game. Pours a very hazy orange-brown with a big, long-lasting golden head. Aromas of nutty toffee and sweet grapefruit, with a little funk. Surprisingly toasty malt flavours with a sweet and spicy resinous hop character, loads of grapefruit, with a very bitter finish that has some herbal qualities in a medicinal way. Toastier than I was expecting, with more American IPA than belgian ale in my mind, but certainly an interesting marriage! deyholla (705), Bloomington, Indiana, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 12, 2009 Updated: Nov 14, 2009Pricey bottle. Pours a clear glowing auburn orange with a tall foamy brett sudsy off-white head with sticky lacing. Aroma is typical Mikkeller plastic, toffee, strong citrus and brett, a nice combo, familiar but unique, piney, cotton candy, pine needles. Flavor is strong buttery toffee, plasticy, grapefruit, dry pine needles, finishing woody cheesy with lingering dry wood/cheese. Medium bodied, still fairly sugary, corse large active fizzy carbonation. I like the aftertaste the best. pintbypint (1007), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Nov 6, 2009 750ml brown bottle, corked. Cloudy orange/amber coloured with a solid, tall creamy head. Some soapy lacing. Aroma has some orange-like sweetness up front, some hemp notes, brett. Malt has some nutty qualities, earthy, woody, grapefruit and floral hop flavours. Medium bitter finish, lasting grapefruit hops aftertaste. Medium body, moderate carbonation. Great mix of bitterness and brett, which to me equals a dangerously drinkable, and no sign of the 8% alcohol. hobbersr (397), Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada

The aroma is pungent with west coast hops. Citrus, honey, brett, resin, licorice, and soft fruit on the nose. The taste is an explosion of flavor. Citrus rind, barnyard funk, pine, resin, licorice, and honey. Very malty, bretted, imperial IPA-Belgian strong ale.
