Looks great, the beer in the glass also, deep black, a bit oily, almost no head. Starts very, very sweet, strong, modest alcoholic. Notes of sweets, liquorice and marzipan. Also some chocolate. Finish is intense malty, a bit woody, still very sweet. Goes down burning, warming aftertaste. Very drinkable for it’s strength. Very good beer! anders37 (4700), Malmö, Sweden

| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Aug 17, 2009 375 ml bottle. Label says 14.9% abv. Pitch black. Seems clear. Small beige head initially but it disappears after a while. Hints of burnt caramel, then a little tar. Cigarette stubs, but soaked in caramel sauce. Feels very sweet initially, then comes an attack from roasted malts, but that is held up by the sweet caramel malt. More of the cigarette ash shows up after a while. This beer is very complex. Layers upon layers of intense flavours. Wonderful stuff. Calvados flavours get more noticeable towards the finish. Fantastic complexity. Bottle reeks of naphthalene.
