Cask at the Market Porter. Cracking stuff in my opinion. A little on the basic side but lovely and smoky in the nose with plenty of dark malt just how it should be. Pitch black, just how it should be. Would be worth a 5 if it had a decent head but there is none so I gave it a 4. Flavour is excellent. Proper smoky stout with some chewy rubbery notes and just a lick of sweetness. Slight bitterness on a lovely clean finish. Yes it is kinda straight down the line but it was clearly on song and the extra smoky character really hit the spot for me. Loved it. blankboy (2625), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 1, 2007 Cask at The Maltings, York. Pours black with an average size mostly-lasting tan head. Nice aroma of roasted malt, light chocolate, eggshells, faint smoke and light earthy hops. Flavour of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate and light hops with a short roasty bitter finish. Average bodied. Pretty good, it’s always a nice treat to find a good Stout on cask. Papsoe (10359), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jul 20, 2008 (Bottle 50 cl) Pours an opaque black with a rough, beige head. Burned malt aroma, some almost vinous accents of dried fruits. Medium body with hard roasted malts and fruit and an underlying acidity. Burned malt bitter finish. 220308 johndoughty (1660), cheslyn hay, West Midlands, England May 5, 2007 Bottle. Black and left no lacing.Straightforward and pleasant. Not a difficult beer to drink with very little complexity bit still quite nice. Pub (4112), Banbury, Oxfordshire, England Sep 2, 2007 Cask conditioned at The Queen Anne, Great Hucknow, Derbyshire. Black beer with malty tan head. Thickish stout, heavy on dark malts, heavily raosted, coffee notes with chocolate pod burnt flavour. I found it a little too heavy for a sunny afternoon.
