Macadem (100), Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada Sep 11, 2009 500ml Ceramic Bottle. Smells quite boozy, and feels the same going down. Sweet in aroma and taste, the flavour is much better than the aroma, but both can’t really be described as a "good" barley wine, but it isn’t bad. It is however grossly overpriced. Bejaaamin (110), London, Ontario, Canada Aug 1, 2009 Poured out a nice dark amber. it filled the room with a sweet malty smell. Very floral, fruity(cherries?), burnt sugar. Went down smooth, very nice texture. Very, very sweet. Strong body, caramel, sweet finish. will hold for a couple years. Very enjoyable. Vertical Bacon Strips (874), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Jun 23, 2009 Another disappointing Mill St. brew product but at the price this may be worth rotting under my stairs for a couple of years...
Poured out a nicely coloured clear syrupy dark gold going amber, no head or lacing, but I didn’t really expect any. The aroma was fairly weak even over the hour it took me to drink this. Now that is not to say that this beer lacks complexity: weak mild dark fruit, alcohol, almonds (more of an Amaretto), faint chocolate ?, light caramel, honey. The taste is thick with a seemingly spicy and alcoholic flavour and a healthy dose of caramel (not overly sweet). Needs a more distinguishable complex flavour. The mouthfeel was quite thick with a large alcohol bite and the usual strong bitter and malty mix for aftertaste. I’ll re-rate this in a couple of years, same batch. Cirrhosis (610), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Jun 11, 2009 2007 edition flip top bottle. Honey brown combined with burnt orange coloured body, an off white cap with great retention floats on top. Very sweet aroma slight wood, a hint piney hops, the aroma finishes with a slightly bitter smoke. Full flavoured with out being over the top, wood, toffee, pine like hopes are the most prominent flavours. As I drink walls of lacing have been left behind. After taste is clean and slightly sweet the mouth feel is nothing special. The flavour is big and malty in the true English style and it’s very drinkable but it not the bset I’ve ever had. Spab (236), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 7, 2009 500 ml bottle, Batch #08-611-614. Pours a cloudy amber gold with small, ever so slightly off-white head. Very sweet caramel malt nose and a discernable fruitiness. Warm alcohol taste with sweet malt and fruit notes. Lasting, though not very bitter hop finish. Thick, sticky mouthfeel. TaktikMTL (2745), Montréal-Nord, Quebec, Canada Apr 29, 2009 Brassin 2008. (Rating #2358) Papillon (172), Sudbury, Ontario, Canada Mar 27, 2009 500 mL ceramic Bottle with a flip-top, Batch # 08-611-614, 11-octane. Deep murky amber with a small off-white soapy head leaving some spotty lacing. Floral-hoppy aroma with a definite cherry accent to it. Flavor: I can best describe it as being like tropical fruit over the sweet malty presence. Banana, pineapple, mango, a hint of cherry, and a note of caramel team up with resiny hops to match. There is a fruity-hoppy lingering about it in the finish that just invites you to sip again; whatever it is, I like it. A real flavor bomb with an octane to match although I detect nothing boozy about it. Whatever you do, beer drinker, don’t get too brave with this one. I see "wine" on the label and it has to be treated as such, or that 11 octane will kick you in the head. Enjoy! Nekronos (2261), Xalapa, Mexico Feb 22, 2009 Vintaged form the 2005, it was nice and storng, slept very nice and had reasonable barley taste.
