Very strong caramel/cookie scents and a hint of tropical fruit (pineapple?), but it’s also tainted by the smell of rotted bread or old socks. Very malty, the burnt molasses tastes masks the booze okay. Somewhat syrupy and flat. Lubiere (4549), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 5, 2005 Tasted in Toronto. Obtained from LCBO. 341 ml stubby #4004 - includes sturdy little barley wine glass. Pours a deep copper red colour, no head, clear. The aroma is very stronge - has alcohol components, raisin / plum, figs and caramel. The flavour is very rich in malt and caramel, a very subtle bitter hoppiness in the background, but dominated be sweet caramel and warming alcohol. Ungstrup (15370), Frederiksberg, Denmark
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Dec 4, 2005 An orange beer with a small white head. The aroma is sweet malty, while the flavor is more complex with notes of alcohol and malt, as well as a slight touch of hops - just enough to give it a dry hoppy end. The alcohol gives a slight burn.
