Commercial Description:
Mill St Belgian style Wit is a refreshing beer made with a unique blend of ingredients. The soft texture and pale colour comes from the use of wheat. Coriander, orange peel and our special yeast produce the complexity and depth of fruity flavours contained within the glass. This beer is unfiltered. The resulting cloudiness gave rise to the term Wit, or White beer

Draught at the Mill Street Brewery. Cloudy yellow body with a thin white head. Coriander, wheat and citrus in the aroma. Very refreshing, with a crisp taste, and a flavour reminiscent of bananas. Medium bodied with a refreshing amount of carbonation. A great summer beer.

Bottle: Poured slightly hazed pale straw color...not as infiltered as I like a wit. Fluffy 2 finger cap with fair to poor retention. Aroma is a bit more promising than the look...nice floral hops under a great corriander spicey tone...light whiffs of citrus and malt. Light, spritzy, spicey and dry in the finish with some light citrus and sweetness. One of the best locally made Witbiers....all natural, refreshing but over filtered and focused at mass appeal. Good effort but not authentic enough for my tastes...I’ll buy this is Hoegaarden is not available.

I’m missing out on the aroma here - I get a mild floral scent, but that’s about it. Pale and almost headless. Just a hint of banana and a lingering bitterness. Carbonation burns somewhat. Not overwhelmed by this one - refreshing but unspectacular.

Pours a hazy light golden with virtually no head. Moderate carbonation. Banana and citrus notes. Quite refreshing.

Six-pack bottles purchased at the LCBO. Pours hazy golden with a average head. Weak banana aroma, flavour is good and what you would expect from a local Belgian Wit. No as good as Blanche de Chambly but a very good alternative.

Yellow with a white head. Strong banana start to the scent fades quickly. Flavour is better than expected. Light banana with a hint of pepper.

Bottle. Hazy yellow liquid, pours with a nice thick head. Aroma is citrusy and vanilla with some note of an odd salmony character. Even odder is the fact that this does not detract. Flavor gives a subdued melange of spices and a little lemon, while occasionally picking up the odd quality described in its aroma. The taste is perhaps a bit on the light side. Overall, not a bad offering -- there are better wits, but I found this one quite enjoyable. Update Nov 4th 2007 - Seems to have gotten better. Flavour is a pleasant orange, yeast and maybe honey(?).

Update: This batch doesn’t taste at all like my previous description. A strong orange aroma. Pours whitish-clear yellow. Flavour is quite possibly the most attractive I have come across in a wheat beer. Loads of orange citrus, wheat and hops. Very fruity. The aftertaste is almost a sour tinge. Nummy.
