Commercial Description:
Our porter is rich and robust, dark brown in colour with a dark roasted coffee nose, imparting an intense coffee flavour with notes of chocolate. Made with beans supplied by the Distillery District’s Balzac’s Coffee, this porter offers a rich, full and unique flavour. Currently, there are no other coffee-flavoured beers in the Ontario market.

33cl bottle, Shelburne. Dark chocolatey black colour, thin beige head. Not surprisingly coffee aroma, with some cola and chocolate as well. Thin tight carbonation, some burnt malt, chocolate flavour, smooth finish. Decent but more interesting porters out there.

355 mL bottle from LCBO. App.: very dark black-brown with a moderate light mocha, red-hued head. Aroma: plenty of coffee and dark chocolate, roasted malts. Palate: med.-low carbonation, a bit thinner than expected, slightly powdery. Flav.: coffee mainly with a bit of dark chocolate/cocoa powder, a faint tartness and just a hint of bitterness to finish. Dry and a bit lacking in depth.

12 ounce bottle from BBB63. Pours very dark brown with a tightly formed and lasting light brown head. Lots of rich mocha aroma. The flavor is completly over run with coffee. Sort of a watery mouthfeel. Interesting, but nothing worth raving about. Thanks Mike.

Terrific, strong coffee aroma. Very rich in flavour. I was surprised at just how much the coffee flavour there is, but it seems to work. Very dark in colour. Nice stuff.

355 mL bottle. A fairly dark ale, a bit transparent in light. The smell invited me in, and the first taste just wowed me. Took a little bit of time until I realized that I didn’t like it all too much. Strong coffee notes, followed by chocolate and a nice aroma of roasted malts. Good beer, but there was little to no mouthfeel at all. Flavourful, but thin. The body is decent, I wouldn’t say full like it claims, but close to medium, off of thin. I was disappointed by how thin this porter was. Not watery, but just really, really thin. I regret buying this over St. Ambroise Oatmeal. The aftertaste reminded me of poorly brewed Labatts. In all honestly, it is a nic,e beer. My reasons for being disappointed was that I expected something similar to the Oatmeal Stout. Quite a different but good experience. If you appreciate coffee, then try it out.

Bottle thanks to HogTownHarry! Poured dark reddish-brown with a whole bunch of small sediment suspended in there... creamy beige head stuck around for a while. The nose carried a solid dose of day-old coffee and espresso... roasted lactose sweetness trailing behind. The flavor was also rooted in cold coffee and espresso.. not a bad roast, not great... souring lactose provides much of the lasting impression. Medium-bodied and went down fairly easily. Solid brew.

355ml bottle - pours a very dark brown (black almost), with a very thin beigey brown head. It smells like sweet espresso, even though the aroma is actually fairly faint. The taste however, is big at first, with a decent initial blast of rich and robust coffee, a little chocolately, some smoke, with some sweet malt in there for points. The coffee dominates in this beer though. Unfortunately, the flavour is a bit thin in the finish and loses a lot of its initial robustness. If it could only follow through on what it brings to the table, this would be a killer porter. This may be somewhat typical of Mill Street’s darker brews...a thin finish and too light in body. Nonetheless, this is a good porter, very drinkable, but it definitely needs more depth and body and is too watery to be truly great.
