Aroma mainly of coffee (surprised?) along with burnt malt and some dark chocolate. Very stong flavour, huge hits of freshly ground espresso, and some smokey follow-up. A strange grassy undertone. Too much carbonation for the style. Body much too thin. Ok, just not something I’d buy again. Slacks (487), Bolton, Ontario, Canada
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 8, 2006 341ml Bottle: Pours a very dark brown, darn near black, with a one finger off-white head that faded away fairly quickly on me. Very little lacing or head retention. Aroma is sweeter than I expected, with a definite roasted coffee and malt alongside some chicory. Flavour isn’t as complex as some porters, but very nice nonetheless. Hits hard on a dark-roasted coffee/burnt malts, moving into a well-balanced bitterness from the hops. Much lighter in body than I thought it would be, but still a simple, good drink. Can’t wait to try it on draught. TipsyMcStager (928), Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Pours ebony with ruddy hightlights when held to light, and a large tan head with good lacing. Strong coffee and roasty malts, charcoal, floral notes and dark chocolate. Very roasty flavor, bitter chocolate and burnt caramel, bitter herbs and milky cocoa. Medium body and smooth, creamy carbonation. Quite nice overall. twilson (3), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada does not count | 1.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 4/5 | 2/10 | 1/5 | 3/20 | Sep 21, 2006 Absolutely atrocious! Smells like a mix of canned asparagus and cold coffee. Doesn’t belong in the same category as other porters such as Fuller’s London Porter. Nekronos (2265), Xalapa, Mexico
