Commercial Description:
Our porter is rich and robust, dark brown in colour with a dark roasted coffee nose, imparting an intense coffee flavour with notes of chocolate. Made with beans supplied by the Distillery District’s Balzac’s Coffee, this porter offers a rich, full and unique flavour. Currently, there are no other coffee-flavoured beers in the Ontario market.

Bottle. Opaque black body topped with a thin beige bubbly head. Enjoyable malty aroma with roasty and coffeeish notes. Taste is well balanced and leaves a good roasted coffee aftertaste. Although it lacks robustness, this a quite decent Porter.

Bottle. Finally getting around to rating this old favourite. Pours black with red hues and a large lasting creamy tan head. Aroma is big time roasted coffee at first, then some roasted malt and dark chocolate. Flavour of coffee, roasted malt, a hint of chocolate and some mild hops in the finish. It’s a little more watery now then it used to be in my opinion but it’s still a favourite of mine and a very good Porter.

Brownish color with amber waves and a very nice off white rocky head. Rich roasted coffee and milk chocolate. Sweet, smoky and roasted espresso, dark chocolate. Quite well balanced and tasty.

Bottle: Courtesy of HogTownHarry via trade. Nicet aroma of roasted coffee with a nice chocolate presence. Pours a very dark brown with just the slightest hints of orange hilights and small tan head that lasts a minute or so. Decent lacing. Flavor is has lots of black coffee with subtle hints of chocolate and roasted malt. Finishes with a slight astringency. Gets off to a good start with aroma and appearance but is lacking a little in flavor.

Bottle aquired via trade with HogTownHarry. Thanks man! This beer pours a dark nearly black with a nice dark tan head. Smells mostly of coffee and chocolate malt. Flavors include a nice coffee bite at first and in the aftertaste, a bit of bittersweet chocolate, and a somewhat grassy flavor that lingers in the aftertaste. All in all I’d be very glad to have another of these. It’s a very solid porter.

Bottle obtained in a trade with Mrmanning. Pours a dark brown/almost black with a thick brown head. Aroma and taste is dominated by coffee but I can also smell some licorice in there and there is malt and chocolate in the taste. I am starting to like Porters since joining this site and this one is a good example of the style. Thanks Len for the chance to try this one.

(341 ml bottle: Obtained Feb ’05 in trade with radiomgb, thanks Jeff!) A well-aged one here! Very aromatic notes of roasted coffee, chocolate, spicy green pepper in the nose, so we’re off to a good start. More roast and coffee in the flavor and hints of chocolate in the finish. Bitterness is quite strong but not overbearing, and sweetness is kept to a minimum. I’m still reminded of green peppers toward the finish, something that is common for me with coffee beers (and some Cabernet Sauvignon). Body is medium with a clean, dry palate, a lasting bitter aftertaste, and a moderately carbonated mouthfeel. Dark brown with ruddy highlights at the edges. Tall, fluffy, tan head slowly settles to a quarter-inch layer. Pretty solid beer all-around, and this separates itself from other coffee beers because there’s more to it than just slamming you with coffee.

Darkest brown w/ brown head. Big coffee aroma with some smoke and milk. Rather thin in body. Weak flavors that, while good, don’t meet the anticipation created by the aroma. Could be beefed up for a richer experience.
