Commercial Description:
Our porter is rich and robust, dark brown in colour with a dark roasted coffee nose, imparting an intense coffee flavour with notes of chocolate. Made with beans supplied by the Distillery District’s Balzac’s Coffee, this porter offers a rich, full and unique flavour. Currently, there are no other coffee-flavoured beers in the Ontario market.

Pours with an immense three finger thick light brown head that sits atop an opaque deep brown (ok really black) colored beer. The aroma is all coffee or at least dominated by a deep French roast type aroma. With a bit of sweet malt aromatics mixed in the aroma is a bit like Kalua, plus a bit of chocolate, and an astringent burnt grain note. The beer is lightly sweet through to almost the end, but then the roast character takes over and it picks up a burnt acidity roast character that linger throughout the long finish. This beer makes no bones about it’s coffee character, the mix of coffee and roast malt all adds to this character, but it may best be described as a coffee with a bit of cream added because the malt adds a certain creamy character which really comes out with the added malt sweetness. Definitely notes of espresso, chocolate, and an authentic old fashioned Brown Malt (perhaps only slightly blown). What a really tasty Porter, I really like the interplay of sweet malt notes, coffee and dark chocolate; makes this beer quite the quaffer to finish the evening off with, like a nice mocha.

Bottle. Strong mocha aroma. Solid black with an off colour tan head. Outstanding roasted taste. Burnt coffee flavours aswell. Bitter nutty finish. Outstanding, by far the best beer I sampled in Ontario.

bottle, different from one shown. Hazy mahogany pour with generous tan head. Pleasant coffee aroma. Nice roasted malt, coffee flavors. Like a baby Peche Mortel or Founders Breakfast Stout. Pleasant bitterness to finish, thinnish mouthfeel.

Bottle. Coffee aroma with some mild metallic notes and a touch of roastiness in the nose. Smells yummy. Mild to moderately hazy mahogany color with garnet-colored twinges. Fluffy off-white head. Slightly metallic and bittersweet chocolate start that turns roasted and very coffee-like. A little thin and mildly astringent. Very nice, though.

Eclipsed chestnut. Thick gray head yields impressive lacework. Aromatic notes of baker’s chocolate, potting soil, and burnt toffee. Molasses and blueberry subtleties. Pillow soft carbonation, but overly fuzzy. The body’s softness curtails the early roast-derived tang, which is chased by tasty burnt cookie and peanut brittle flavors. Substantial airiness compounds the charred malt hull sting, but the body’s cakey fullness is accompanied by an enriching nougat and meaty molasses sweep. Room temperature causes the sweetness to flare up, but the dry roast holds its ground. Finishes with burnt molasses cookies and chalky coffee notes before a weightless ashen malt texture gently skims the palate. Lengthy aftertaste of nutty malt hulls. Has a decent aroma, but it’s simply too sweet.

Bottle acquired in trade with beerhugger (thank!). Poured a dark brown with a larger sized tan head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate with some roasted malts. Tastes of pretty much the same. Light bitter coffee finish. Thinner body.

Bottle...RBSG2005...Very dark brew with a small, creamy, khaki head. Lots of coffee and cocoa in the nose and flavor. Well-balanced and medium-bodied. Creamy with lively carbonation. Finishes dark-roasted and dry. Thanks to dougshoemaker for the bottle.
