Commercial Description:
Bitters have been the common drink in English pubs for decades. Mill St ESB uses only traditional ingredients, Marris Otter malt and Fuggles and East Kent Goldings hops, all imported from England. With light malt and hops in the nose, this copper coloured ale gives rise to a malty body with hints of chocolate and black currents. The hoppiness is always present but never out of balance in this style.

On tap at the brewpub. Amber colour with a nice head. A well balanced beer. Very good. I do agree with StoompBrockmore - it could be "kicked up a notch "

Draught. Deep copper with a small white creamy head. Decent aroma consisting of orange, slightly buttery cereal, and fruity hops. Sharp and mildly bitter. Bready malt spine and generic hop characteristics. Somewhat forgetable in the end.
Tasted at the brewpub on January 5, 2007.

Draught at the brewpub. Lightly hazy amber brown with not much head. A glass transfer to share later earnes a fairly big one. Muted aroma of flat toasty caramel malt. Light bitterness and a light hint of toasty malt in the flavour that fosters a sharp bite in the caramel malt. Hops add little beyond the bitterness. Average palate. Will try this again sometime as this was clearly not as good as the other ratings here.

Draught at the Mill St. Brewpub - came lightly hazy orange with a very thin white head. Aroma is quite light but very nice, bready and fruity. Flavour is very soft with notes of floral hops, fruity malt, with a very lightly bitter finish. This is very well balanced and well carbonated, and I can imagine it making a great cask beer. Very light tasting. I could deal with everything being kicked up one notch for slightly more "oooomph", like the Rogue Brutal Bitter, but otherwise this is a very good ESB.

On tap at the Mill St. brewpub - came a hazy gold colour, with a thin white head that lasted for a bit. Earthy, bready aroma, but not huge - fairly subtle. Taste was very nice - lightly hoppy, balanced with the quality malt, and then a pleasant light bitter finish. Would be nice if it was slightly less carbonated, and would be delicious in cask form. Very soft in the mouth. A really good session bitter. Update - had on cask at the brewpub. It’s all of the above, but softer and more flavourful, with a slightly slippery mouthfeel. Superb. Note: had this on cask dry-hopped at the brewpub last night and it was delicious - try it out if you get a chance. Not hugely complex or amazing, just really simple and drinkable.

Draught at the Mill Street Brewpub. Pours a hazy amber-orange with an average size lasting foamy white head. Nice hoppy aroma with some malt and fruit -- well balanced. Flavour’s sweeter then expected with equal amounts of sweet malt and hops and a light bitter finish. Medium bodied. Pretty good, this is a nice version of the style.

Draught at Mill Street Brewpub. Slightly hazy dark amber-orange with a moderate off-white head. Very interesting aroma - earthy and fruity, with some notes of wet leaves and dung - I know, it doesn’t sound very appealing, but it really works. Flavour is very fresh, with notes of grain, bread, and a moderately bitter/dry finish. Solid, flavourful, well-balanced - damn good!
