Commercial Description:
Formerly known as Sparkling Ale (6/05)
A golden export-style ale made from only malt and hops, no fillers or adjuncts. A brillant golden colour gives a “sparkling” appearance as the gas escapes from the glass. The natural sweetness of the malt is perfectly balanced by the bitterness derived from the hops. This beer represents the way blonde ales were made 100 years ago.

Draught. Sampled at the 2005 Toronto (Fort York) Festival of Beer. Poured a clear, pale yellow with an average white head. Aroma of icing sugar, some grain (corn?), weak hops, a bit of leafiness and apple. Tasted grassy-grainy (rye) with some bland hops, not much malt - a flaccid, somewhat corn-flavoured standard Canuck brew, maybe less like a carbonated haystack and a little more malt than the norm of this type. Mouthfeel was unmemorable. Disappointing, their weakest brew yet.

Draught at the Beer Market. This was a disappointment from a solid local brewery. Basic bready maltiness from a pale yellow offering. Light hops but then an odd malty finish. Wouldn’t pick it again.

Bottle. Pours a lightly cloudy yellow with a small fizzy white head. Aroma is moderately yeasty with a touch of malt, no hops that I could detect. Taste is a little sweet with some mild bitterness. Body has a soft carbonation. Considering this kind of beer isn’t really my thing I was surprised to find this quite drinkable, a nice summer patio beer.

On tap at the Alex P Keaton in London, Ontario. Pours sparkling blond. Lots of carbonation. Head life is long. Aromas are subtle. Some hops, malt, some breadyness. Taste is sweet upfront, with a mild hop bite on the finish. A good summer brew.

bottle. thanks to DougShoemaker for noticing that I hadn’t rated this one yet and being thoughtful enough to bring one over. I’m almost certain that I tried this back at the brewery a year or so ago but I guess I never rated it. Light golden body with lots of carbonation, frothy white head. Aroma consists of sweet cookie dough and musty hops. Flavour also has that biscuit malt flavour, light subtle hops. medium carbonation. It’s actually fairly tasty and could be a good quaff in the summer. Nice.

Light golden colour, thin white head. Light fruity aroma, flavour is very grassy and fruity (peach). Nice pale malt backbone, light hopping. Very refreshing, a nice summer beer.

Extremely fruity smelling and tasting. Peachy aroma with a cherriness that permeates the nose and flavour. Refreshing beer with a nice zip on the tongue. Malty finish. Cheers!
