Aroma is sweet and malty with notes of ripe dark fruit, bread, caramel, hints of honey and light spice. Flavor is sweet and funky with notes of wheat, wood, caramel, light floral esters. Generally light to medium body with a little funk on the finish. ¾ (4999), Colorado, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 22, 2009 Deep rusty colored red body with a thick-bubbled dirty tan head. Nose: caramel malt, bread crust, little to no aromatic hops. Silky carbonation, finely bubbled, smooth across the tongue turning slightly sweet (citrus, maple) in the finish. Resinous, woody, nutty, caramel-heavy, but the low carbonation and the body are well-suited for the mild hop presence and use of bread/cracker-heavy malt. dangermoose (9), Alberta, Canada does not count | 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Aug 22, 2009 This has been my favourite beer as of late. The bottle is a classic old school slender beer bottle. It pours quite dark with an off white fluffy head with good lacing. Aroma reveals a nutty maltiness and a lot of hops. The first sip reveals complex malts, supporting claims of four or five differents malts or whatever they’re claiming. But also lots of hops. This is primarily a hoppy beer. pete4999 (138), Buffalo, New York, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 20, 2009 Draft at Imperial Pub in Toronto. This is a pretty solid beer, a nice example of a simple ale done right. It’s got a nice dark reddish-amber color, and a moderately complex taste. It seems like the brewers didn’t want to overdo it, and did a great job balancing flavor and drinkability. I liked it. strowlands8 (83), Ontario, Canada
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 12, 2009 A really great beer, nice deep amber colour with a small white head, taste is very hoppy but has a nice smoothness as well with lots of interesting flavours coming through. Glad that is becoming more readily available all over Canada. Elkas (86), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Aug 4, 2009 341ml bottle from the LCBO. Pours a dark amber, with a small head that leaves great lacing. Wonderful rich hop aroma. Flavour is rich malts with some gritty hop backbone. Very nice beer indeed. Bejaaamin (110), London, Ontario, Canada
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 1, 2009 I was at a crappy little dive the other night and noticed they carry tankhouse, so i ordered one. And it was dreadful! Sharp skunkiness, very unappealing texture, bad balance. I felt like i was drinking your average americen fizz. But I remember drinking alot of this about 5 years ago, and it was my favorite for a long time, so good marks for that. What happened? Maybe it was a skunky bottle? Maybe the expansion dropped the quality? I cant let this one bottle ruin it for me. Must try it on tap again. chainman (104), Ontario, Canada
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Jul 28, 2009 I am not being one bit generous when I say this is a near-perfect ale. No wonder this is becoming a staple in many bars around Toronto, and slowly spreading its fingers outward. Mill Street has a fantastic beer here.
Appearance is a flawless deep amber. Decent lacing, minimal head. Aroma is hops, a bit of dark fruit and some chocolate. Taste is very hoppy, but unlike so many others, the hops are expertly balanced with some malts that
bring through a gritty cocoa character.
I could not recommend a better all-around beer for people who know their beer. Good for any weather, and very refreshing. I feel fortunate that I can buy this stuff almost anywhere.
