Commercial Description:
Like traditional pale ales, Tankhouse Ale has a deep copper-red colour. We use five different malts to produce a complex malty texture. The most dominant character of our Pale Ale is the hop. The spicy Cascades is used to give an assertive hop flavour, aroma and bitterness to our ale. The result is a satisfying and complex-tasting beer. Our brewmaster developed this recipe 20 years ago and it has remained his favorite drink of choice

Crystal clear deep amber with a 1/2" fast collapsing head. Pungent toasted grain and relatively complex hop aroma with spicy, earthy and citrus notes. Lightly tart and carmelly in flavor. Moderate hop presense finishing with a balanced bitterness. Has some astringenct. Not bad.

A hazy dark orange beer with a thin orange head. The aroma is sweet hoppy combined with notes of caramel. The flavor is sweet malty and well hoppy, combined with notes of caramel, leading to a dry hoppy and bitter end.

Wow for a Canadian beer I didn’t expect much. Tons of aroma, of malt and spice. Nice thick head that lingered over a sienna coloured pour that was disapointingly clear. Very full taste, very malty with a good amount of spice. Some pale late like bitterness that I could do without (cascade hops?). This really blew away my expectations. There is a bitter bitting aftertaste that grows as the beer continues that is less than pleasant. At the end it stuck unpleasantly on the tongue way to long. The aftertaste killed this one, I was really enjoying it until then.

Pours a brilliantly clear, deep, dark amber color. It is topped by a frothy light tan colored head, which creates a pretty densely packed, almost creamy head, but its only about one finger thick. The aroma has a light hoppy spiciness to it which is quite nice. Underneath this is some crystal malt notes that carry both a bit of caramel and a bit of toasted malt notes.

The taste of this beer is hop dominated as well, but not in the way a pale ale might be. It is lightly spicy, with a touch of herbal grassiness to it and even has a touch of sweet citrus to it, but just a touch. The beer has a nice malty sweet backdrop to it as well, which perfectly accentuates the hop notes, but does not quit reach their level. Notes of caramel, some toffee and ample caramelized malt notes are here. The beer only has a light bitterness to it, but it is quite solid and contributes to the overall hoppy sense of this beer.

This beer is quite nice, no flavors jump out at you, but sometimes (actually many times), you don’t want that in a beer. This has been solidly put together, and it is a great beer to just drink and enjoy. I would have to say that I wish this where a tad drier, it would make it easily quaffable and the crystal malt notes might not be quite as high.

Not much aroma, but nice hoppy flavour. Tasted a 5 oz. sample draft pour. No head to speak of on a sample this size.
