Commercial Description:
Like traditional pale ales, Tankhouse Ale has a deep copper-red colour. We use five different malts to produce a complex malty texture. The most dominant character of our Pale Ale is the hop. The spicy Cascades is used to give an assertive hop flavour, aroma and bitterness to our ale. The result is a satisfying and complex-tasting beer. Our brewmaster developed this recipe 20 years ago and it has remained his favorite drink of choice

On tap at the Queenshead in Toronto. Hoppy aroma. Rusty red colour, lasting thin white head. Reminded me of Smithwicks at first taste. Somewhat bitter. Smooth, refreshing palate with a nice warming finish. I hope they sell this in Saskatchewan soon.

bottle, unlike the one pictured. copper pour with a generous off white head. Pine hop aroma. Well, the beer smells like hops, however, it has little if any hop presence. Mainly malt, some grapefruitiness to start, malt in the middle and finish...Ehh

Fresh aroma with moderate hoppiness. Average size off-white head with good to excellent lacing. Medium orange colour. Bitterness is moderate to strong and ends with some light malty sweetness. The bitterness lingers with some hoppy dryness which makes this beer crisp and refreshing. Medium to full body with moderate carbonation.

Boittle. This was not a stubby bottle, so I’m not sure if this is old or new. Nicely hopped aroma that is a bit spiced and a little piney. There are earthy malts in the nose as well. Amber-copper transparent color with a frothy, off-white head. Bitter, earthy, spicy hops to start, then turning very burnt and resinous to finish. A fair amount of roastiness is present. A bit dry and too burnt for my tastes. Ok stuff.

(thanks to Jah Noth for sending me this sample!!) Love the stubby bottle. REddish brown pour with a thin veil of head. Carmely malt aromas with a trace of hops. Some toasted malts, too. Grainy flavors. Some carmel and toast, but edgy. Finishes with some more grainy notes and a little piney hops.

Bitter with a strong after taste. Nice golden colour, but it sticks around way too long.

Strong grapefruit, orange, citrus, pine, spicy hops in the nose are supported by a strong caramel maltiness. Clear, copper coloured body with a fine-bubbled white head that recedes to a generous cover with some patchy lacing. Assertive bitterness up front subsumed with chewy caramel and bready malts that are joined by orange and pine hop flavours that last on the tongue. A hint of dark malts in the finish. Dry, medium body with moderate carbonation. Very enjoyable. Shaker, just above fridge temp. Bottle (RBSG’05 leftovers).

Pours a clear red with a thin white head, slightly effervescent, with rather good lacing. Aroma of hops, quite floral, some malt, elements of the aroma are one of my favourite smells in beer. Taste was hoppy and sweet malts, with a long hoppy finish, not too bitter. Mouthfeel was that of a good session beer, a little thin, but very crisp. I’d like to try this on tap, and have many.
