Commercial Description:
Like traditional pale ales, Tankhouse Ale has a deep copper-red colour. We use five different malts to produce a complex malty texture. The most dominant character of our Pale Ale is the hop. The spicy Cascades is used to give an assertive hop flavour, aroma and bitterness to our ale. The result is a satisfying and complex-tasting beer. Our brewmaster developed this recipe 20 years ago and it has remained his favorite drink of choice

341 ml bottle. Pours coppry brown in colour, with off white head. Aroma is powerful, full of complex malt and hops! Flavour is similar, well balanced with strong malt taste and hoppy finish. Good beer!

341 mL Bottle. Amber body with a small but tenacious off-white foamy head that leaves ample lace on the sides. The aroma is intensely hoppy in a way that reminds me of Liberty Ale which I assayed here at an earlier time. Hoppy-grassy with a note of pine needles dominates over the crystal malt and toffee notes and whisper of grapefruit. The flavor is as intense as it is interesting: the hops are definitely dominant over the crystal malt, toffee, grapefruit rind, and whisper of coffee that come up like a wave in the aftertaste. A real flavor bomb with the hop bitter lingering just enough in the finish to lure me to another sip.

On tap at the brewpub. Tried every beer at the brewpub and this was easily the best.....oh wait, the coffee porter was pretty good too. Nice hopiness...especially for the sleepy Ontario beer market....I find the mouthfeel a tad cottony which is a little off-putting but otherwise solid. Previous comparison to Budweiser American Ale is a little harsh - I think this beer is far superiour.

Pours a dark copper with a nice big tan coloured head. Aroma of well, cascade hops. Now I defiantly recognize cascade hops. Complex citrus lemon, orange grapefruit, bready notes, spice, caramel, some grass all on the nose. Tastes pretty bitter (cascade hops), more complex flavors of citrus (mainly grapefruit rind and orange) very bready malt showing through, caramel, and spice. Nice mouth feel, good carbonation, creamy feel, full bodied without being heavy. I like this beer. A really nice bitter/pale ale.

bottled. Poured clear, dark copper with off-white fluffy head. Floral-caramel aroma. Smooth, low carbonation. Highly bitter with spicey finish.

Pours a darker copper color with a thin, foamy, off-white head and has moderate carbonation. Aroma has cascade hops coming through but also seems to be mixing with another more bitter grassy hops as well as a solid toffee and bitter (maybe Munich) malt nose. Flavor is on the bitter side and starts off with the toffee, caramel and Munich-like malt taste and moves into a grassy hops bitterness, ending with a slight citrus cascade hops flavor. Mouth feel of the beer is quite light and does leave a little dryness at the end of the tasting. Overall a good beer but it actually reminds me of a much better Budweiser American Ale and I find it to be just an okay beer.
