Commercial Description:
After twenty years of making beer, Millstream has decided to celebrate! The brewmasters have carefully devised a special beer, a dopplebock, to commemorate the event. This beer is available only in 22 oz large bottles, and only 1000 bottles were made. Each bottle was hand filled and labeled by zealous fans of the brewery. The brewers say that this beer is fantastically rich and full of malty goodness. Notes of sweet plums and caramel are present throughout this dark, heavy beer. At 6.25% ABV, this is the strongest beer that Millstream could legally make in the state of Iowa. This beer will probably not be made for another twenty years, so don’t miss out!

22 oz bottle. Dark brown with a small head. Aroma is motor oil and caramel. Taste is a lot of raisin. I mean a LOT of raisin,. Body is a bit thin and after drinking a few db’s, this isn’t as good as most, therefore thats how the rating goes.

Sampled at the Milwaukee YEHa!05 courtesy of JPDIPSO: Pours a still transparent copper amber. Sweet malty caramel aroma has a touch of grapes and vinous character with some bocky German yeastiness. Starts sweet with sticky caramel and lightly fruity with a good, authentic bock flavor and a clean, tasty, green Hallertau hop flavor. A little more carbonation and this would be quite nice. It’s a shame that this is the strongest thing that can be legally brewed in Iowa.

Deep cherry brown color with a clearish body and thin, dark sandy brown capping of firm foam. Top fades quickly to a collar and the lacing is drippy in big globby strings with a glare of spots sticking. Aroma is a bit light on the nose, but never the less carries the doppelbock character with a richly dark tone of malts bringing baked raisins, brown sugar, cinnamon bread, dates, and figs. Taste is good; smooth, soft, and malty. Not as lengthy or as bold as most doppels tend to be. The duration of flavors that are found don’t last long. How unfortunate. Because this could be quite nice if it could just reach the next level of needed character, thickness, and boldness. Flavors are lightly dabbled in dark toffee with super tiny slivers of the dark fruityness listed within the aroma along with a small scotchy, earthy rough spot thrown in there. Some watery vanilla middles it out as it ends in a rush, not letting anything gain strength as it finishes. Toffee tends to sit late on the palate with a chewy coating of malty lagered texture. Helping, but still not enough. Feel is shy of medium in body with a wateryish area in the mid ranges. It trys hard to surge ahead in length as it finishes but never makes it as it simmers very softly hinting to the lagered malty texture and semi chewy smoothness that comes with the dopplebock style. So with that, it does make for a decent drinking beer. It’s smooth, soft, and moderately malty with an uncontested short length and character to its body and flavor. An above average doppel, only siding well with me due to its clean crafted profile and well mannered attention and drinkability.

I’ll go back to one of my favorite descriptors: buttery brown-sugar with caramel and toffee. A nice and malty aroma with a hint of alcohol which is hard to believe I picked up alcohol in a 6.25% beer. Color is mahogany brown without much of a head. Sweet flavor with flavors just like the aroma: caramel with some nice buttery malt flavors. Medium body, very smooth finish. Thanks to JPDIPSO/Heemer77 for sharing this one.

Thanks to JPDipso for sharing this: Pours a dark crimson color, small white head. Aroma is sweet and malty, cherrys and wheaties. Flavor is smooth, lots of toasted malt, dark fruit notes.

Dark copper with a small off white head. Maple syrup and brown sugar aromas. Mostly sweet and malty. Normally that is not a bad thing but that seems to be the only thing going on in this on. Not much for depth or balance.

Tasted at the Tosa YeHA 2005 and provided via Heemer77, I figured:

Slightly hazed brown with reddish highlights with a minimal head and lace. The aroma has notes of caramel, prune, apple, butterscotch (but a good thing here), brown sugar and earthy yeast esters. the taste is sort of cloy, sticky sweet malts and ripe fruit with a yeast background. Not much sharpness or hop notes. The feel is quite average, sticky and smooth. It is okay really but does not make much of a lasting statement.
