Commercial Description:
The 'oatmeal' in the name is due the 10% oatmeal in the the grist of this brew. Oats give beer a real thick mouthfeel, something definitely desirable in a stout! But the real secret is in our lager yeast. Most stouts are made using ale yeast, but we wanted ours to be a smooth as our lagers! Black malt and roasted barley give the beer its color, and coffee-like flavors.

Another bottle from Cornfield. This one started an opaque black/brown with a little red around the edge. Small, light brown head became an oily film leaving no lace. Aromas started as corn/grain... then proceeded quickly to burnt malt. (Burnt malt + corn = a smell similar to burnt paper.) Silky in the mouth, with undefined roasted flavors. I’m not sure what I mean, but it tastes like I just licked a freight train. I sincerely don’t know how I feel about this.

bottle from Rich. expectations were not real high after looking at some recent ratings. but... surprise, surprise, I thought this was pretty damn good. a little bit sweet with some roasted malt & coffee flavors. easy to drink and smooth on the finish.

This was not well balanced and I don’t know if I would try this again. Probably, but only if offered.

interesting burnt aroma, hints of caramel and coffee.. black body with a nice layer of tan head. flavor gets better towards the end. starts out with the aforementioned burnt coffee taste, and gives way to some vanilla and sweet chocolate tones. aftertaste is grassy and bitter, body is pretty thin. not in the same class as alot of most sweet stouts.

"Lager" and "Stout" don’t belong in the same sentence, let alone the same bottle. Hard to know what to make of this beer but here goes: Dark brown w/ a dark khaki head. Aroma of toffee, chocolate & roasted malt. Sweet flavor but not offensively so - chocolate, coffee, a little vanilla & roasted malt. Mouthfeel was very then & watery for a stout. This felt more like a dark lager but it had some hallmark stout flavors. Overall, this isn’t really a good beer. As a stout, it’s very thin and not as flavorful as most - especially most sweet stouts. As a lager.. well, who cares? If this is an experimental brew to try and bring stout to the masses, I’d say its a failure (and for all the wrong reasons).

Black with a little red around the edges when held up to the light. Fluffy light brown head after the second pour. Aroma is predominantely coffee and roasted malt. Pretty one dimensional in terms of the taste, not necessarily in a bad way. I like stouts that have that roasted coffee taste. There just isn’t really a whole lot of that flavor going on, somewhat thin. Overall, I think this would make a nice nightcap.

Pours black with a largy creamy light brown head that sticks around. Smells of caramel, chocolate, coffeeeand roasted slightly burnt malt with some raisins, prunes, dates and oranges present. Taste and finish is slightly chocolatey. Decent.

Dark brown with a tiny tan head. Aroma is mild coffee, roasted malt, a bit of yeast. Medium to full bodied. Taste is light roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, stale grains, lager yeast. Finishes with a sweet grain taste, rubber, and a bit of yeast.
