Pours an opaque dark brown with an orange hue and a small light brown head. Sweetish aroma of hard roasted malt. Quite full-bodied for such a low ABV beer with plenty of sweetish roasted malts a whiff of coffee and an edge of dried fruits. Has a light malt bitterness in the finish. 220808 Naven (877), Poway, California, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 12, 2008 I’m pretty sure this is my first beer from Iowa. Not bad. Light in body, but still a nice cocoa & malt flavor. Lively carbonation and easy to drink. Kind of a funky flavor at the end. Fairly interesting, and definitely better than the score suggests, but nothing I would seek out again. yngwie (5000), Kristiansand, Norway
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 1, 2008 Bottle. A dark brown beer with a small, tan head. Chocolate, roasted malt and some coffee in the aroma. A bit one-dimentional maybe, but quite nice. The flavor has beef-stock, coffee, chocolate, a little touch of butterscotch and a coffee bitter finish. Medium body, quite dry, yet with a sweetish feeling. Sweetness, coffee and some butterscotch as well, in the finish. A quite nice one, but nothing more. Easy to drink, but maybe a bit dry for an oatmeal stout. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 24, 2008 12 fl oz bottle. Pours dark brown to black with fully diminished tan head. Almost smooth mouthfeel. Chocolate and roasted malt aroma, quite dark and slight roasted. Roasted malt base flavour with a smooth chocolate note and a reappearing roasted malt flavour showing a distinct acidity into the finish. Lingering chocolate malty finish. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Aug 1, 2008 Pours a dark, dark brown that appears black in the glass with mahogany tints around the edges. The head is small but dense and fades quickly leaving only hints of lacing. The smell is dominated by dark roasted malts, chocolate and burnt coffee. The taste is not quite as distinctive as the smell but does have a little more sweetness in the form of molasses up front. Then it’s more of the roasted coffee and malts with a slightly bitter coffee finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and a little thin for the style. This is a very drinkable stout though I’m not sure what the lager label is about. Either way, nothing distinctive but not too bad. BrewCzar (108), St Louis, Missouri, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Jul 18, 2008 Bottle pours dark brown with a quickly receding tan head. Aromas of chocolate, malts, with a hint of sour. Flaovrs of cocoa powder, cherries, and a slight sour note. Thin and nothing to exciting going on. CanIHave4Beers (912), Des Moines, Iowa, USA

Aroma is fairly faint but plesant, there is a bit of chocolate, fresh coffee, and oatmeal. The beer is a very deep brown with a thin but lasting tan head. The flavor is quite good, the oatmeal flavor is very presant and very nice. There are flavors again of coffee and some coacoa. There are also some flavors of licorice, and light hop fruityness. The stout is very creamy and drinkable. badbeer (433), Iowa, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 5, 2008 Black color, creamy tan head. Smell is of cocoa and roasty, with some hops perceived as well, nice, but could have been stronger. There seems to be some sort of sourness in the taste, but luckily the roastiness overpowers it quickly and leads you to a tasting of oats and cocoa in the finish. Lower carbonation, nice creamy mouthfeel, medium bodied. I could definately see myself having more of this, could be improved in some areas, but is a pretty good local stout. Worth trying if you come across.
