Commercial Description:
The 'oatmeal' in the name is due the 10% oatmeal in the the grist of this brew. Oats give beer a real thick mouthfeel, something definitely desirable in a stout! But the real secret is in our lager yeast. Most stouts are made using ale yeast, but we wanted ours to be a smooth as our lagers! Black malt and roasted barley give the beer its color, and coffee-like flavors.

12 oz bottle-trade w/pepsican. Saw lager on the label of this beer & was a little surprised when it poured out black; a closer examination showed I had a Lager Colony Oatmeal Stout. Kind of different, not a bad sweet stout, flavors are kind of subdued. Some roasted malt & coffee; had a lot of carboination. Easy drinker, not as much chocolate as some, oatmeal comes thru. Good Brew, Thanks Andy!

Appearance: Pours a black body with ruby-hued edges and a thin, thin khaki-colored head. Smell: Mild, faint aroma of dark malts, with a hint of dark chocolate and metal. Taste: Lightly sweetened, smokey dark chocolate flavor. Finishes tangy and metallic. Mouthfeel: Thin-bodied. Displeasingly watery. Drinkability: Using a lager yeast for an oatmeal stout, though it could be considered an exercise in creativity, did not serve the final product well at all. Or, hell, it may just be an infected bottle. Either way, this is one poor beer.

nice dark color tannish head, bitter roast smell and taste with hint of coffee. smooth finish. Pretty good , but as far as oatmeal stouts, a little left to be desired.

12 ounce bottle. Shaker glass. Dark with a thin tan head. Coffee, oats and grain in the aroma. Taste was mainly decaf coffee, oat bran, baking chocolate and malt. A bit thin for a stout.

Thanks to Dec ’06’s santa. Pours out black with a moderate sized tan head. Aroma of chocolate and roasted malt. Flavor is mainly roasted malt with some chocolate, slight caramel and coffee here and there. Mouthfeel is a bit thin.

Plain flavor: coffee malt and slight sugary sweetness. I did like the smoothness though, as compared to a traditional oatmeal stout.

Small tan head, good retention with minimal lacing. Black bodied, opaque. Nose is chocolatey, light roast and caramel notes. Body is med/light with a light oilyness. Chocolate flavors up front with notes of roast, malt balls, lacto? and a gentle roastiness. Finish is lightly sweet and roasty. Sweet Stout? Not really. Enjoyable brew. Thanks to eaglefan538 for nettin me Iowa. Thanks Brian!
