Commercial Description:
The 'oatmeal' in the name is due the 10% oatmeal in the the grist of this brew. Oats give beer a real thick mouthfeel, something definitely desirable in a stout! But the real secret is in our lager yeast. Most stouts are made using ale yeast, but we wanted ours to be a smooth as our lagers! Black malt and roasted barley give the beer its color, and coffee-like flavors.

dark dark brown color with dark khaki fizzy head that dissipates quickly. aroma of oatmeal and honey and walnuts, lots of heavy black cheap coffee. flavor is carbonated and bittersweet chcolate with only a touch of the coffee in the aroma. some toffee and oak flavors. touch of carmel but not much there. very thin and a lot like stout soda...

Dark color. Smell of chocolate, caramel, coffee, hops, malt and nuts. Taste of roasted coffee, malt, coco, hops, light toffee/caramel, hints of smoke and a copper bitterness at the end. Its not that bad of a beer.

Bottle courtesy Sledge Jr. Poured a brownish color, good initial head and delayed bubble separation. The aroma was chocolate, light coffee. The flavor was chocolate, light coffee, and a milkiness that supported it all. Probably a little too milk chocolatey thin to be better than average, yet this one was still enjoyable. Thanks, Todd, for saving me a trip into rural Western Iowa for this one!

From the beer of the month club 12 oz. Bottle. Pour a pure clear black with a off white head a soapy lacing. Chocolate, earth, and nuts invade the nose. The flavor is sweet with malt and chocolate with a slight bitterness at the end that balances out the finish nicely. Smooth and silky texture. Well made beer. Goes very well with something chocolate like a brownie.

Pours very dark, almost black, with a frothy tan head. The aroma has roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee and the bitterness that comes from all three. Medium body that starts out lush and finishes sharp with lots of carbonation. Flavor starts with milk, cream, light roasted malt and chocolate. The finish gets a bit spicy and a bit bitter. There are also some coffee notes lingering. A nice oatmeal stout.

The thing I love most about this beer is the uniqueness of its flavor. I have never had oatmeal stout like this. The coffee and chocolate taste with the smoky aroma is a great combination.

Draft at the diminutive brewery tasting room. Opaque black color with thick tan head that settled into a thin foamy cap that hung in there for a while. Aroma is roasty coffee with a hint of chocolate, light brown sugar, and occasional anise. Medium bodied with a delicate, almost imperceptible sweetness throughout, and a light roasty bitterness at the end. Flavor is a little one dimensional, mostly weak coffee. Looks great and has a pleasant aroma, but it didn’t exactly dazzle my taste buds.
