| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 11, 2009 Labeled as Hefe"R" Weissen, complete with Holsteins in sunglasses. Heavily hazed golden color with a diminished white head. Aromas of wheat and heavy esters and phenols. Bananas, cream and raisins come to mind. Wheat and pale malt start. Bananas flavors work their way into the middle. Not a clean banana, rather one that’s set on the counter a few days too long. Earthy and sweet in the finish. Slightly cloying and thick on the palate. Finishes with a bit of vanilla and cream of wheat. A bit to thick and chewy for me. Doppelganger (1353), Dry County, Arkansas, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 22, 2009 Bottle, from the brewery. Cloudy gold, white head quickly fading to nothing. Clove, marmalade fruit, warm and pleasantly medicinal. Soft bready flavor, fruit preserves, clove finish. Apart form head retention issues, very solid, if a bit safe. alexanderj (2284), Chino Hills, California, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 23, 2009 Bottle, enjoyed in hotel room in Springfield. Color was a dull, dirty goldish color. Aroma of wheat, banana, sweet malt, earth/spice. A pretty solid version of the style. Quite malty, almost to the point of being vegetable. Banana and vanilla, not much clove. Solid beer. First from the state of Iowa. Ceebs25 (242), Naperville, Illinois, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | May 20, 2009 12 oz bottle. The aroma is definitely hefeweizen on this one, but there’s something subtly off about it with a kind of oily gas can type of scent in the background. Some buttery popcorn, bubblegum, mellow fruits, and yeasty banana bread in there as well as I did like the other aspects of the aroma pretty well. Very tiny pour for a hefeweizen, with only a thin layer of starchy white head, a semi-cloudy body, and a blonde orange color. Again, with the flavor, there is something a little off, at least to me (not skunky in the least though). There’s just a little too much of the chalky/soapy feel and subtle flavor that turns me off a little to it. Other flavor notes include American wheat grains with minor yeasty bread, weak banana and clove spices, and some other minor mellow fruitiness. I was a tad upset with this selection from Millstream as their other beers have been solid and true to style though maybe slightly boring (but that could also be due to the style of beers that they chose to brew). It’d be nice if Millstream started producing a few more stronger and more flavorful beers to give Iowa brewing a little more credibility as I still think they have it in them. nuplastikk (1252), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 12, 2009 12oz bottle. My first beer from Iowa. Hazy golden-yellow straw appearance. Orange vanilla aroma, maybe some peach. The taste is a little off, but the Hefe yeast is quite forgiving. Sort of crossing the line over into White Ale territory, very smooth and yeasty. Tangy orange citrus finish. Sub par stuff all the way, but may be better brewery fresh.
