Commercial Description:
The grain bill for this beer is big, and it calls for over 60% wheat malt. The Wheat malt also helps to contribute to the whiteness of this beer. The high gravity of this beer combined with the suspended yeast give it a luscious, nectar-like mouthfeel. The Yeast are essential to the beer, as they give it characteristic fruity tones such as Clove, Banana, Vanilla, and Bubblegum.

12 oz bottle. Pours a hazy orangish body with a small fizzy white head. The nose is rather off, there’s a lot of spoiled garbage juice going on. There is some actual wheat and yeastiness, but my nose just can’t get past those off notes. There’s more weirdness going on in the flavor. None of the yeast character that you’d expect from a Hefe, just lots of murky graininess and cooked veggies. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and a little heavy with moderate fizzy carbonation. Just a murky mess all in all. Why can’t there be more decent examples from US brewers of such a basic style?

Bottled. An unclear golden beer with a thin white head. The aroma is sweet with notes of wheat, malt, and oranges, as well as light notes of spices. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of spices and oranges, leading to a dry wheaty finish. Thanks to Papsoe for sharing.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Courtesy of pepsican. Hazy golden with an off-white head. Aroma of yeast, cloves and banana. Medium body, lightly sweet clove and banana accents and a whiff of yeast. Dry finish with some phenols. A very decent Hefe close to authentic German examples of the style. 131108

12 oz. bottle. A bit darker yellow than the average hefe; bubbly head that dissipates quickly. First nose impression is of orange, then clove. That clove and orange stays around in the taste, gives it a different character that I kind of like. Good-sized malt bill adds to color and taste. Some hefe banana esters come in after that. A more defined sharp German hop profile than I usually get with hefes, too. Some yeast taste toward the bottom, though there’s no sediment to suggest bottle conditioning. Different and interesting.
