Commercial Description:
The grain bill for this beer is big, and it calls for over 60% wheat malt. The Wheat malt also helps to contribute to the whiteness of this beer. The high gravity of this beer combined with the suspended yeast give it a luscious, nectar-like mouthfeel. The Yeast are essential to the beer, as they give it characteristic fruity tones such as Clove, Banana, Vanilla, and Bubblegum.

I had the Hefe "R" Weissen. Very nice and very traditional H.W. I loved it and will be drinking the shit out of it the rest of this summer.

Very sweet Weissen. Classic color, mouthfeel, and head, just a bit sweeter. This was a very refreshing beer, but i dont think i could drink very many.

This is a superior hefe. The palate is a wheat base, naturally enough, with walnuts in the background and a banana/clove hybrid coming forward on the tongue. Very nice, and pleasantly complex for this genre of brew.

Sampled on draught at the GTMW ’08. Pours a semi-hazy golden light amber brew with a thick white head that slowly dissipates to a thin white head that stays with the glass. Aroma of typical hefe character of yeast, cloves, banana and some flowery hops. Taste is medium bodied, light carbonated with flavors of banana, citrus zest, cloves a touch of white pepper and some dry spice. Finish has a mild banana and yeast aftertaste that quickly disappears.

Bottle labeled Hefe"R"weissen, I am guessing htis is the same beer though. Pours milky honey gold with a 2 finger creamy off white head that has great retention and leaves sparse lacing. Aroma is lots of wheat, lemon, clove, bubblegum, banana, light yeasty bread dough and just a hint of grainy malt. Flavor is wheat, lemon, clove, light dried grain, some grass, a little banana, some light bready yeast notes and some nice crisp mineral notes. Finish is banana, spice, a little bubblegum and wet limestone. Palate is light to medium body with a slightly chalky feel throughout. This is actually a pretty good hefe, better than I remembered it being. Great summer brew, not as clinging to the palate as many hefes are.

Tried at the 4th Annual Festival of Iowa Beers. Big banana smell/taste is balanced great with malt.

Draft at Taste Bistro on Melrose in Iowa City. Cloudy yellow color with a delicate head that laces the glass as you finish it off. Love the yeast. Nice grainny, fruity aroma with estery banana flavor. Excellent replica of a German classic. If you’re thirsty and it’s hot...this is your beer.
