drowland (1360), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Aug 13, 2009 Tried at the 4th Annual Festival of Iowa Beers. Very, very big oak and vanilla with a touch of butter that makes it smelly like whiskey all in all. The flavor hangs on with hints of whiskey and oak. Completely missing all of the big fruity esters that you’d hope for in this style. bu11zeye (5430), Frisco, Texas, USA Sep 30, 2008 (Draught) Pours a clear amber body with a small off-white head. Aroma of raisins, toasted bread, toffee, and caramel. Flavor of sweet raisins, caramel malt, nuts, and brown sugar. pepsican (883), The Student Ghetto, Iowa, USA Aug 26, 2008 GTMW and hahahahaha. Amber pour with a thin white head. Butter and caramel aroma. Flavor was more butter, caramel, used bubblegum, and grain. Watery finish. GeneralGao (3051), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Aug 10, 2008 GTMW ’08. Poured a slightly hazy copper color with an off white head. I had anticipated something a bit murkier. Smelled mostly of caramel with a whiff of butter. Light to medium bodied and delicately sweet. Cereal grains dominated the flavor with some distinct ABC gum. There was also a hint of brown sugar at the end. Eh, not my favorite from this brewery. Skyview (4007), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Aug 10, 2008 Sampled on draught at the GTMW ’08 as Millstream Reserve Dubbel Bock. Pours a semi-clear amber brew with a creamy off-white head that slowly dissipates to an off-white ring that stays with the glass. Aroma of caramel malt, some toffee, candi sugar, some yeast and a touch of banana and vanilla. Taste is smooth, creamy, full bodied, with flavors of caramel malt, candi sugar, toffee and some extra alcohol presence. Finish has a nice alcohol warmth with a mild aftertaste of caramel, butterscotch and caramel malt. Lots of character to this dubbel.
