Commercial Description:
The name Schild Brau means essentially 'Shield beer' in German. This is our Flagship brew, a Microbrew done in the style of the special beers of Munich. This beer is brewed in the style of a Vienna style lager. This style was first developed by Anton Dreher in Vienna in 1841. He used a new type of sweet caramelized malt that gave the beer a wonderful reddish, coppery color and a juicy malt character. Word soon spread to Germany where this style of beer became immensely popular, and stronger versions called Marzen or Oktoberfest were soon made. Our beer uses these same malts to attain a perfect balance between malty sweetness and a firm bitterness. Our Hallertau hops are imported from Germany give it subtle spicy flavor. The repeated awards that we have received for this beer only confirm why many people consider this beer to be synonymous with Millstream Brewing at its best.

Pours a beautiful amber cooper color with a nice sized light tan head. Nose is malt. Creamy, not overly carbonated mouthfeel. Roasted malt dominates flavor with added notes of carmel and coffee. A well made good tasting Iowa brew that even a Badger can enjoy. This Vienna pairs well with barbequed foods, especially ribs, chicken or burgers.

12 fl oz bottle. Pours clear and golden deep orange with a fully gone head. Mild spiced and alcohol aroma, mild roasted malt note towards breadish. Mild sweet and breadish roasted base flavour with a mild spice note. Nicely counterbalanced by some bitterhops giving a nice smoothness and balance into the finish.

Single from Three Cellars. Nothing great here. A nice beer but that is about it. A little sweet light malts.

Smells of bready malts, grits, and dry leaves, caramel, butterscotch buttered white toast and toasted grain. Flavor has a great malt up front, carmel, bicuity, sweet grain, light but sweet butterscotch and a hint of chocolate. Almost no sign of hops for a while then a nice bitter spicy, verrrry slightly citrus note about the same time as a slightly funky woody malt, grassy toward the finish. Decent beer with a suprising level of complexity as it warms.

12 oz bottle. Pours a clear light amber body with a small fizzy light beige head that faded to a wispy film. Fairly minimal aroma of toasted malt, cereal grains, and a touch of hops. The flavor is mildly sweet with a toasty maltiness up front and a light crisp bitterness on the finish. Slightly grainy and a little thin, it does drink pretty easily. Mouthfeel is a little watery and thin with moderate fizzy carbonation. Not the best amongst the style, but drinkable.

Pours a nice dark amber color, transparent, and had a white head; but the fact the head left with no trace brings it down. Smell of caramel and toffee. Sweet caramel greets your taste buds, paired with some toffee and a soft, earthy bitterness to even things out. Really well balanced taste. Higher carbonation than average, medium bodied. After finishing up a test, this one hit the spot nicely. I’d have another, but unfortunately this is the only one I had. Worth a try.

Amber with a medium white head. Aroma of light caramel , sweet malts and light German hops. Taste is pretty light too, mostly of sweet caramel with a little hop character to balance it out. A drinkable and forgettable Vienna.
