Commercial Description:
The name Schild Brau means essentially 'Shield beer' in German. This is our Flagship brew, a Microbrew done in the style of the special beers of Munich. This beer is brewed in the style of a Vienna style lager. This style was first developed by Anton Dreher in Vienna in 1841. He used a new type of sweet caramelized malt that gave the beer a wonderful reddish, coppery color and a juicy malt character. Word soon spread to Germany where this style of beer became immensely popular, and stronger versions called Marzen or Oktoberfest were soon made. Our beer uses these same malts to attain a perfect balance between malty sweetness and a firm bitterness. Our Hallertau hops are imported from Germany give it subtle spicy flavor. The repeated awards that we have received for this beer only confirm why many people consider this beer to be synonymous with Millstream Brewing at its best.

Bottle from ketchepillar- 12 oz bottle- poured transparent darken amber, slightly heavy carbonation, white head quickly bubbled away. Aroma of roasted malt and a touch of sweetness. Hits the mouth with a medium body, the malt tastes a little old, some hops on the finish. Had great potential, but the malt is off to me.

Pours dark amber with a small bubbly head. It smells of sweet malts. The flavor is rather crisp and a little grassy with sweetness following through. A little nutty. A little bitter on the finish. It’s got a medium mouthfeel. It’s alright.

Pint at the brewery tasting room. Crisp, fresh, livey hay flavored malts (lightly sweet, lightly chewy) with some greenish vegetal notes and some caramel chewiness, finishing with a mild tawng on the back. Good overall.

Appearance: Pours a clear amber body with a thin, bubbly white head. Smell: Altogether mild aroma of toasted malts with light notes of apple and flowers. Taste: Toasty maltiness with a mild sweetness and a hint of red apple peel. Vaguely floral hop character with little bitterness provided. Crisp finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: A fine, easy-drinking beer. Why, it’s schild’s play!

Pours a transparent copper amber with a thin ring of white head. Sweet grainy caramely German malty nose has a touch of noble hoppiness. Body starts lightly sweet with some hay and earthy notes and some caramel toward a thinner finish. Pretty true to style and drinkable.

12 oz bottle coutsey of pepsican. Aroma had some spicey bitter and toasted grains. Amber body with decent head. Flavor was sweet bitter to start with. Flavor got more of a malted caramel from middle to finish with a sweet mild bitterness aftertaste. Decent brew and first from Iowa rated.
