drowland (1337), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Aug 19, 2009 Got a 6-pack of this for my brother for Christmas and stole a bottle. A really nice quality beer from MS that just might be their best. golubj (1275), Sunnyvale, California, USA Aug 11, 2009 Bottle. Light caramel / burgandy pour with beige head. Aroma is smokey, nutty, chocolate, some dark fruit. Flavor is the same, some aged caramel malt, lightly oxidized, and lightly watery palate. Unique beer. alexanderj (2212), Chino Hills, California, USA Aug 11, 2009 Bottle; poured a reddish brown color with a minimal head. Aroma of caramel, nuts, roasted malt and a good dose of chocolate malt. A bit of strangeness to it. Flavor was pretty solid, if not unspectacular. Some chocolate notes with a bit of rye bread notes in the finish. A touch watery and fruity. Overall this was a solid beer. JaBier (1130), Capital City, Ohio, USA Jun 30, 2009 12oz bottle. Clear light brown pour with a medium tan head. Sweet malt and caramel notes with chocolate. Caramel malt flavor up front giving way to chocolate and a dry coffee finish. Not bad. nuplastikk (1157), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Jun 8, 2009 12oz shorty bottle. Deep, opaque chestnut brown. Minimal, put lasting head. Sweet aroma, some dry hops pervading through. This is quite a well done Bock beer in my opinion, balanced, smooth and drinkable. Sweet brown sugar and chocolate. One of the better stateside examples I’ve had. Ceebs25 (217), Naperville, Illinois, USA May 19, 2009 12 oz bottle. Light to medium aroma, not a lot of hop qualities to it, but a minor lager grass is in the background as the smell is not overly sweet. A good amount of roasted nuttiness, darker grain malts, and maybe less chocolate sweetness then I was expecting. Pour was ok, with a small, frothy, fizzy head that mostly dissipates. A nice full feel for the style that flows down nicely. Sadly the flavors are pretty mellow, but are not bad. Again, similar to the aroma, a grass bittering hop sits in the background and comes out more in the finish as it is fairly dry. The main players here are really roasted caramel, nutty and sweet dark and black grain malts, and minor chocolate and coffee. Not really all that much chocolate. A pretty decent beer. iamqueensblvd (178), , Iowa, USA Mar 23, 2009 Rich dark pour with a frothy off white head that lasts throughout. Absolutely delicious. No real bitterness and it sits sweetly on your palate. esjaygee (1467), Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA Feb 21, 2009 Ruby brown with a thin tan quickly dissolving crown. Aroma of soy sauce, chocolate and malt. Taste of schokolade, roasted malt, toffee and nuts. Creamy and thin with some mild alcohol evaporation on the tongue that’s a little detracting. Kind of like a dark cream ale.
