Commercial Description:
Just in time for the holidays is our special treat. A dark and chewy bock beer. Around November you’ll find ’chocolate bock’ on tap down at the brewery. The history of Bock beer is a complicated one, going all the way back the dark ages in Europe. In the 14th century, the city of Einbeck became famous for this style of beer. So thats where the name "beck" or "bock" has come from. No other beer has a more pure and intense malt character as a true Bock. Many large breweries in the U.S. have diluted the original strength of this beer, but we make the real thing. The body of this beer is rich, making it a good beer to warm up to during those "special" Iowa winters. The blackened malt that we use in it gives the brew a slight hint of chocolate. Its a smooth brew, having been lagered for over a month in our cellars, in true bock style.

Poured a rich dark reddish brown with a quickly subsiding laced head. Nice roasty aroma. The flavor is syrupy sweet, caramel and roasty.

Pours deep reddish brown. Flavor is sweet caramel malts with some roasts with a little chocolate and mild grassy hops. There is also an undelying fruity flavor of raisins and cherries(perhaps), which didn’t work for me. But overall not bad.

Clear brown body, generous fluffy tan head. Light caramel and grain in the aroma. The flavor is nice with its cocoa and caramel malts and light grassy hops. Good palalte. Heemer gave me this beer and I appreciate it.

Clear, bright ruby/ near brown color, good slab of cocoa-toned foam standing above, slowly thinning. Chocolatey nose, roasty, hints of espresso and anise. taste begins fruity, cherries and dates, then gets a little bitter and gritty, roasty, nutty, and it ends about there. Mouthfeel is medium, finish is brief and still chocolatey. A bit fizzy, and a bit more bland. Sorry, to say, ....it’s not bad at all, just lacking what we’d really like from a bock. Flavor just leaves a lot to be desired. could be a lot tastier, more rich, full, maltiness is in order.

Pours a reddish-chocolatey brown. Fizzy and off-white head. Smells of roasted malt, sweet and earthy. Taste is lighter than expected, crisp, toasted, malty and sweet chocolate. Finish is soothing. Not all that remarkable, but a decent beer nonetheless.

Bottle via Heemer, Thanks!: Chestnut hue with a nice lasting frothy tan head and good lace. The aroma has notes of carmel, chalky and dusty yeast esters, floral and grassy hops, applesauce, and allspice. The taste starts with a mild sweetness on top of a twangy bitter undretone. Very earthy and grassy notes throughout. Some nutty and grapefruit character towards the fading finish. The feel is lively and crisp, very un-bock like really. Yep, quaffable and refreshing just not full of depth. Enough qualities to try one on.

I don’t normally like the bock style, but this was pleasing to me. It was milder in style than normal. I noticed a bit of hoppiness. I could drink a lot of this in one day because it wasn’t overpowering and was very enjoyable. I had this on tap at the brewery. I may be over-rating it compared to others because of that. I recently had a chance to re-rate this... The appearance is a honey caramel head. It is very effervescent. The beer is a rich red/brown color. Very pleasing to look at. The aroma is of chocolate and coffee. Well balanced with a bit of hoppiness. Strong at first but went away too quickly. Also, I noticed a hint of vanilla. The palate had a thick mouthfeel and was not sticky sweet. It is well carbonated. The flavor is of chocolate, vanilla, and mild grassy hop. A tad sweeter would be nice. Slight bitterness.

Pours a transparent dark ruby brown with a thin light tan head. Aroma is dominated by milk chocolate, lager yeast, and a touch of German hops. Starts with sugary caramel malty sweetness revealing a touch of lactose and chocolate toward the finish. Fairly well balanced and quite drinkable. Thanks to heemer77 for this fine Iowa brew!
