Commercial Description:
Just in time for the holidays is our special treat. A dark and chewy bock beer. Around November you’ll find ’chocolate bock’ on tap down at the brewery. The history of Bock beer is a complicated one, going all the way back the dark ages in Europe. In the 14th century, the city of Einbeck became famous for this style of beer. So thats where the name "beck" or "bock" has come from. No other beer has a more pure and intense malt character as a true Bock. Many large breweries in the U.S. have diluted the original strength of this beer, but we make the real thing. The body of this beer is rich, making it a good beer to warm up to during those "special" Iowa winters. The blackened malt that we use in it gives the brew a slight hint of chocolate. Its a smooth brew, having been lagered for over a month in our cellars, in true bock style.

Pours a transparent dark ruby brown with a thin light tan head. Aroma is dominated by milk chocolate, lager yeast, and a touch of German hops. Starts with sugary caramel malty sweetness revealing a touch of lactose and chocolate toward the finish. Fairly well balanced and quite drinkable. Thanks to heemer77 for this fine Iowa brew!

Dark amber color, creamy-looking light tan head. Grainy, earthy malt aroma with an like amber ale type chocolate hop touch. Awkwardly sweet roasted taste with touches of chocolate and raspberry. Grassy finish. Good body and slightly creamy. Thanks to Heemer!

Pours a dark red/brown, with small off white head. Aroma is choclate, and roasted malt. Flavor is choclate, cofee, and bitter cherries. Palate is malty, with a bitter dry finish. Thanks to Heemer for this one.

Clear chestnut color with a moderate light tan head and a few small isles of lace. Lightly burnt caramel aromas, with a mild backdrop of sour-mash grain. Light toasted sweetness starts the sip. Heavy malt flavors throughout the quaff. Light acidic bitterness late that helps clear away all the malt and give this one a rather dry finish. With the acidity it gives it a somewhat odd feel, but nothing bad. One of the better tasting brews from this brewery.

Poured a lightly hazy, reddish brown color with a small off white head. Chocolate, roasted, nutty, caramel malt aroma. This is starting to remind me of Sam Adams Chocolate Bock. More chocolate, nuts, tobacco, and roast in the taste. Almost identical to the above mentioned Choc. Bock, though this had more bitterness, and less of the milk chocolate creaminess.

Small beige head with clear, dark copper body. Aroma is medium sweet, caramel, some chocolate, pistachio, soil, light sour lemon. Taste is medium sweet, caramel, chocolate, lemon sour, some grapefruit. Medium, somewhat watery body. Interesting beer, not entirely sure what to make of it.
