Commercial Description:
Just in time for the holidays is our special treat. A dark and chewy bock beer. Around November you’ll find ’chocolate bock’ on tap down at the brewery. The history of Bock beer is a complicated one, going all the way back the dark ages in Europe. In the 14th century, the city of Einbeck became famous for this style of beer. So thats where the name "beck" or "bock" has come from. No other beer has a more pure and intense malt character as a true Bock. Many large breweries in the U.S. have diluted the original strength of this beer, but we make the real thing. The body of this beer is rich, making it a good beer to warm up to during those "special" Iowa winters. The blackened malt that we use in it gives the brew a slight hint of chocolate. Its a smooth brew, having been lagered for over a month in our cellars, in true bock style.

Pour is dark ruddy brownish amber with a thin tan head...smell is faintly fruity with some light pears and hints of toasted bread or melty chocolate...taste is lightly sweet and roasty with a strange off cardboard flavor toward the finish...

12 oz bottle courtesy of Pepsican. Pours a dark brown color with red highlights and a small khaki head. The aroma has cherries, roasted malts and some earthy dust. The flavor is light with more red fruit, a hint of coffee, minerals and chocolate. The mouthfeel is smooth and creamy. The finish is short, dry and slightly astringent. Overall: A very basic, but enjoyable, brew. I recommend it.

BOTTLE:Dark with nice lace. Definite chocolate and roasted malt aroma and flavor. Lively palate with a long but minorly dry finish and very earthy.

Dark brownish mahogany with small tan head that leaves some fine lace. Smells of chocolate, toffee, roasted barley, raisin, molasses, some spice. Tastes much as the nose indicates. Mildly bitter chocolate, raisin, molasses, roasted barley. Big malt flavor without being sweet. Smooth full mouthfeel despite somewhat aggressive carbonation. Impressively simple.

12 oz bottle via Mys Swap 3.0 (thanks iowaherkeye!). Pours a deep dark brown with an above average sized beige head. Nose is caramel, toffee & dark fruit. Taste is some sweet caramel, toffee, chocolate, almonds. Body is light/medium, carbonation is perfect. A decent Bock.

Dark red with a creamy tan head. Dark caramel malt, cocoa, vanilla aroma with a hint of DMS. Way bitter for the style. Rather thin in body. Ok flavors of raisin and chocolate but lacking in malt.

12 oz. bottle courtesy of Secret Santa ’07. Pours a clear deep red/garnet color with a fizzy disappearing beige head. The aroma is medium sweet caramel, chocoloate malt, and lager yeast. The flavor is pretty straight forward medium sweet caramel, chocolate, and biscuits. Not much in the way of bitterness. This definetly leans to the side of malty. Not bad though; just not very complex.

interesting pour: dark purple, no head. the aroma so so subtle that i only caught air. the sour-sweet flavor was not enjoyable. the sour finish sticks with you. and the sweetness in the flavor is mush too overpowering for me.
