Dec 29, 2007 Bottle... Clear, deep, dark, ruby ale with a mid-sized, fizzy, khaki head. Good, tight, creamy retention. Restrained, nutty, chocolate aroma. Malty flavor leans on the sweet side of balance... medium sweetness; gentle bitterness. Toasted nuts and grains. Medium-bodied with medium carbonation. Sweet, dark fruit, chocolaty finish. Thanks to pepsican for floating this brew my way!

Sep 13, 2007 Pours to a flat, dark brown color with virutally no head, carbonation or lacing. Nosde is a very strong, very pleasant mix of malty sweet caramel and chocolate. Although the body is fairly thin, the mouthfeel delivers with a sweet tingly sensation. Flavor is a continuation of the malt chocolate and caramel, with a hint of alcohol entering near the end.
Finish was a nice, long, sweet and warming. I enjoyed this even in the dead of summer, though I can see how it would be more enjoyable next to a fire as a true winter warmer. Just a little too sweet to have more than one.

Aug 3, 2007 Updated: Aug 21, 2007Originally reviewed back on 11/21/03. Received 3.9 score. Added to my RB list to check "Iowa" as a beer state consumed. Amber brown with a scant head of beige. Aromas are somewhat fruity with a toffee aspect. A nice little bock.

Jul 7, 2007 Out of the swingtop bottle at the 07 RBSG grand tasting. Dark beer with mahagony highlights. Short lived beige head. Cereal grain nose. Sweet bock beer with chocolate, fruit, raisen and some caramel. Not that interesting.

Jun 29, 2007 Sample thanks to Maniac. Nice very dark amber, slight carbonation. Bread, molasses, and slight raisin nose. Flavor is sweet bread and raisin. Not bad at all, and I normally don’t care for bocks.

May 2, 2007 One of the best chocolate beers I’ve had. A full, dusty bittersweet chocolate taste with a medium-heavy mouthfeel and a underpinning of roast, nuts, caramel, and some cream. Bittering is clean and the beer finishes light and not sticky.
